Commotion in Bay Ridge Today – NYPD

The police were in Bay Ridge and there was a lot of commotion near Dunkin Donuts.

They were able to bring a person to the ambulance.

People might notice there is less cursing in Bay Ridge tonight.

Ragamuffin Parade in Bay Ridge 2019

This year the Ragamuffin Parade will take place on Saturday, September 28, 2019.

When is the Ragamuffin Parade in Bay Ridge? What time does the Ragamuffin Parade begin? What streets is the raggamuffin parade on?

Saturday, September 28, 2019 is the date for the Ragamuffin Day Parade. See all Fall Festivals in Bay Ridge here.

Registration begins at 11:00 am. The parade starts at 12:30 pm at 76th Street and 3rd Avenue.

The parade goes from 76th Street to 92nd Street on 3rd Avenue in Bay Ridge.

Any child can participate in the parade – there is no cost. Your child only has to register if you want their costume to be judged and to get a small toy (all the kids get a favor type toy….you may not think it’s anything, but kids love that stuff – so think like a kid).

What type of costumes do kids have? Some children have homemade costumes that are very involved, some have costumes they bought at Walgreens or a costume store. Many parents offer old costumes to people in the neighborhood.  Some kids wear their jeans or shorts and a funny shirt and/or hat. There is no required type of costume…If your child doesn’t have a costume, they can still walk in the parade.

If you have a child that can ride in a stroller, bring the stroller – it’s a long parade route for a kid.

If you are an adult, it is always hot at the parade – no matter how breezy the day is.

The people who run the event are amazing – they collect prizes and do a lot of planning for this event.

You don’t have to have a group to walk with, you can just walk with your child. Some people walk with their church groups, family, the people on their block, etc.

This is just a fun, community day in Bay Ridge – come out and enjoy the day!

Brooklyn Pet Store on 5th Avenue in Bay Ridge

When Petland Discounts closed, this pet store opened in the same location – 8403 – 5th Avenue.

I love the  beautiful painted gate. When store owners do things like that, it let’s everyone know they are part of this community.  The owner of this new pet store knows how important this is to us.

Amazing Residents Doing TNR on 99th Street

The Toby Project recognized some women in our area for their fantastic work!

Some residents saw that 99th Street had a large cat population. They decided to do a TNR Project there.  (TNR stands for Trap, Neuter and Release).  They were able to have 14 cats spayed/neutered through the Toby Project, which does low-cost neutering for community cats.

When there are a lot of cats in a community, the best thing anyone can do is to have them neutered, so that the colony doesn’t keep growing.  After they are neutered and cared for, they are brought back to the block where they came from (although sometimes people adopt them too).

This amazing group of people saw a problem, fund-raised, informed the community and took care of a growing feral cat issue in Bay Ridge. See more pics here. This was a lot of work!  Thank you! These are the people who make this neighborhood great because they care!

You will know that a cat has been part of a TNR Project because one of their ears will be tipped (missing the edge).

The Toby Project wrote this:

If you would like to help this group, get TNR Certified. There will be a TNR certification in Bay Ridge in September (no details yet) and there is a free course online (it’s 90 minutes long) . After you are certified, contact Marybeth or Sonia

Chris Hoban Run in Bay Ridge – September 15th

Police officer Christopher Hoban lost his life while on duty 31 years ago.  Each year, he is remembered by his alma mater, Xaverian High School and the Bay Ridge community on the second Sunday in September (weather-wise, it is always the most beautiful Fall day).

On Sunday, September 15th at 10:00 am, the ceremony and Hoban Run will take place. The Hoban Cup will be in honor of Kevin Faye, a friend to all in Bay Ridge. (Kevin passed away in January). Both were from OLPH.

Register for the kids dash (12 and under) here – $15.00

Adults register for 5K or 5 Mile Run – here

If you prefer to print out and mail in the form – it’s here.
