December 2, 2019Donate Clothing in
Giving Tuesday is celebrated after Cyber Monday. It is a movement to transform communities through supporting organizations that make a difference!
1) Grandma’s Love – I’ve written about Theresa and her organization, Grandma’s Love before -> here. Grandma’s Love provides children in our area a bags of food for the weekend. This is a way to make a difference right here in Bay Ridge. Grandma’s Love also makes sure that children have the necessary things – school bags, supplies, books to read, warm clothes, etc. (Facebook is matching the donation here)
2) Reaching Out Food Pantry – the food pantry feeds a lot of people right outside of our area. Food pantries seem to be maxxed out now. They also give holiday parties to families who need a little Christmas.
What if you can’t give $$ now – Volunteer on 12/14 & 12/21 to assist with their annual holiday toy drive & which gives some Christmas joy to 800+ children in need. Sign up here

3) Bay Ridge Cares – An organization that comes to neighbors’ needs when, at times, there is no one else. Recently, they spend hours getting Thanksgiving Dinners t0 the elderly and homebound. Last year, they helped out a veteran in need. They also setup the acct so Facebook will match what you give – see here
4) Sean Casey Animal Rescue – great organization that finds homes for cats and dogs. What if you don’t have money to give? Bring them your newspapers – they need them for cages and yesterday they made a call for them on Facebook.
If you don’t have money right now, go donate clothes you don’t need! Brooklyn Dance Center at 9110 – 5th Avenue is collecting used clothes, accessories, bags, belts and shoes. Everyone has things they don’t need – bring it to the dance school.

December 2, 2019Does a Politician Need to Tour Other Areas to Do Their Job?
According to Shorefront News, Andrew Gounardes went on a Civil Service Tour. Story here
Why do politicians do that? People don’t elect them so they can go on trips. Some of the politicians in area have accepted trips to China and Israel and think that’s okay because everyone else is doing it.
I don’t think it was necessary for Gournardes to see the fire department, bus depot or schools in upstate NY – we have all of those things here. Couldn’t Gounardes have asked questions and taken pictures with the men and women who work in Brooklyn? Maybe Gounardes should give up being the chair of this committee so he can concentrate on doing his job.
And who pays for this trip? Nothing in life is free, so whoever is paying wants Gounardes to vote a certain way.
Ironically, the man quoted in the article, Tim Kennedy wrote a bill to give tax property tax breaks to some people in his area (no, I am not kidding).
Union 32BJ has Gounardes chanting, but why isn’t he here helping his community with the problems HERE?

December 1, 2019Power Lost in Dyker Heights – 12/1
Update: 4:40 pm – Some people are reported they have power – Hooray!! Story here
Residents in the 70’s around 12th Avenue in Dyker Heights were experiencing flickering lights in the early afternoon today. Around 3:00 pm, some of them lost power or partial power in their home. Some people in the 80’s said they heard a loud noise around 2:40 pm (if this is true, it means its a blown transformer…..we’ve seen this happen so many times in Dyker).

November 30, 2019Vaping Forum – 12/2 – Weird
On December 2nd, Senator Gournardes is going to have a vaping forum at PS 195 Manhattan Beach for teens, tweens and families. Gournades and Councilman Brannan did a meeting about vape for parents in our district awhile back.
Strange things:
a) Senator Diane Savino’s picture on the bottom of the flyer and is sooo tiny. Why ?
Savino is definitely able to talk on this topic. Last Spring, Senator Savino had a lot of bills about legalizing pot. See here One interesting bill, Savino had was to raise the age to 21 for smoking and vaping. See here
b) The groups that are sponsoring the meeting are named on the bottom. Some of their logos aren’t clear, but the first one is. The first group is Steve Saperstein’s group. Saperstein is a Republican who ran in the city council and assembly elections – see here. I’ve seen Saperstein’s new group run the same events that Coney Island Hospital has run other years.
