NYC Property Tax Commission Recommendations
The Property Tax Commission formed by Corey Johnson and Mayor de Blasio returned their findings today. See the report here.
Here is the Property Tax Commission’s Ten Initial Recommendations:
Now they intend to do more hearings before they tell the senate the results of the commission. See here No more hearings are needed – they already did the hearings. So why are they doing more hearings? Because it’s a Democrat tag-team to stall this. If Andrew Gounardes isn’t part of this system problem, he should proceed immediately, instead of doing another season of stalling. (Last year Gounardes didn’t do anything to help home owners.)

Many people called me tonight about this and were surprised that I wasn’t happy. When you have been paying crazy taxes for awhile, you want to see a bill with significant changes….that’s when I will be happy.

It used to have this sign up.
Before that it was Yemen Wahdah. Although it looked like an eatery, it wasn’t very inviting.

Art Hair Stylist at 7127 – 5th Avenue had up two signs.
What the storefront looked like:
One poster says that this business moved to 1160 Bay Street in Staten Island.
And the other poster says that Roman moved to 512 -72nd Street, so people won’t miss their stylist.

Why is Nicole Malliotakis celebrating the signing of a bill she didn’t work on?
Malliotakis didn’t recognize Max Rose’s vote for this bill.
Of course residents reminded Nicole Malliotakis that she said she regretted voting for Trump!
The NY Assembly was in session today and Malliotakis didn’t attend,so she could attend the Trump event.
Malliotakis faces a primary race against, Brooklyn prosecutor, Joseph Caldarera. Get your popcorn ready for their debate!
Nicole is right on the issue of bail reform now, but where was she when it counted?

January 29, 2020How Did Councilman Brannan Score Lower Than Treyger?
City and State released a couple of articles this week ranking NYC Council Members on their responsiveness, bill writing and being present. See here, here, and here.
I knew I had to look into the story more because I wasn’t sure how Brannan scored lower than Treyger….something is off.
Several people have sent the links and asked why I haven’t commented or shared the information, even Democrats! It takes time to check things out and see what’s going on.
This above graphic was sent to me and shows Brannan ranked 42 out of 50 Council members for attendance with only 72.48% days present at meetings. YIKES! I thought, “What the heck is going on here?”
Then a Bay Ridge resident shared on social media that Brannan was out for medical leave. The person sharing that information is someone well-respected in the community. If what this resident wrote is true, then his absences will all be grouped together.
If you have read this blog for a bit, you know I follow the local politicians and Brannan never mentioned anything serious. Awhile back, he did write about being home ill, but it sounded more like a virus, than a serious condition that would require medical leave.

February – 12 Meetings – Brannan present for 9 (2 meetings were on the same day when he was out)

April – 9 Meetings – Brannan was present for 5 (one he missed due to conflicting schedule with another meeting ) and one was medically excused

- Absent April 29th Committee on Public Safety
- Absent April 30th – medical
May – 12 meetings – Brannan was present for 8 (medical for 4)
- May 1st – medical
- May 8th – medical – 2 meetings

Present for May 20th
June – 11 Meetings – Brannan was present for 8 – 1 Conflict of Schedule (see below)
- Absent on June 6th Committee on Public Safety
- Absent June 17th Committee on Fire and Emergency Management
- Absent June 25th Committee on Education
- June 27th – Conflict with this meeting
July – 2 Meetings – Brannan attended one.
- Absent on July 22 – Committee on Consumer Affairs and Business Licensing
August – 1 Meeting – Brannan was present for it.
September – 10 meetings (Brannan was present for 9)
- Absent September 23rd – Committee on Public Safety
October – 5 meetings – Brannan was present for all (NYC Council deferred 7 meetings this month)
November – 2 committee meetings – Brannan was present for both
December- There are no meetings for December listed on the site. Doesn’t NYC Council work in December?
It appears that the majority of the missed meetings are around the time when Brannan took medical leave (it’s marked on the NYC Council Meeting Agenda) so what the Bay Ridge resident said adds up.
Of course, there are some regular missed days, but everyone has those for the flu , funerals, events or emergencies.
City and State didn’t do a good job reporting here. A medical absence shouldn’t have been counted towards any council member. Another councilman was on leave for a new baby and got a low rating due to their strange rating system. There’s too many spin doctors out there looking to get clicks instead of reporting the news we need.

January 28, 2020Water Main Break – 4th Avenue in Bay Ridge
There is a lot of commotion on 78th and 4th Avenue due to a water main break.
The police have closed 77th – 79th Streets and the DEP is there. See two videos here.
The water has been turned off.

Councilman Brannan said there is no impact on the subway. Buses were temporary rerouted, but they are back on their route.

January 27, 2020Sexual Assault at 95th St and 4th Ave Station
The 68th Precinct Police announced that a 31-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in the train station at 95th Street and 4th Avenue around 10:00 AM this morning. Story here.
The woman went into the bathroom and a man went in after her quickly. He choked and punched her from behind. (Source) He tried to pull off her leggings. (Source)
The Post shared this: “The woman screamed for help during the attack, and a good Samaritan opened the door to the restroom and said: “What’s going on in here?” The attacker shut the door, but the good Samaritan pounded on it until the suspect stopped the attack and ran off.”
This woman is a fighter and not a victim. Between her fighting and the good samaritan’s help, she wasn’t rape. We prayed for her tonight because this is beyond awful.
On the Citizen App, it showed that the man was wearing a blue ski mask and a backpack. (See here)
Councilman Brannan shared that a good Samaritan stepped in. The news shared that the man tried to go into the bathroom to see what was going on, but the attacker closed the door and continued to assault the victim. He banged on the door until the man left the bathroom. The attacker spoke to the good samaritan and said someone was trying to rob him!
The woman was brought to NYU Langone (formerly Lutheran) Hospital. She had a black eye and bruised face.
