Five Politicians and the Secret Letter to the Mayor

The local paper wrote that five politicians got together and wrote a letter to Mayor Bill de Blasio about the problems of illegal conversions in Bensonhurst.

Andrew Gounardes, Justin Brannan,  Peter Abbate, Mathylde Frontus and Max Rose wrote “the mysterious letter.” Are they all scared to request a meeting with Mayor de Blasio or is one scared to write the letter, so he called on the others to join the?

It’s disappointing to see Mathylde Frontus and Max Rose participating in this as they are usually straight shooters, Mathylde never does the the press release politics.

The last time three of the politicians wrote a letter together, they (Brannan, Gounardes and Frontus) overrode Community Board 10’s decision and forced painted bike lanes on our area.   #Disaster

Justin Brannan was seen having dinner with Mayor de Blasio in Bay Ridge a few months ago. Why would he need to write a letter when he knows the Mayor and can just ask him to do something?

While the local newspaper carried the story, the letter is not online. Strangely, none of the five politicians has mentioned the letter on social media.

Honestly, everyone is so tired of their press release politics and getting nothing done! It’s not right that these residents are overtaxed and can’t get help on simple issues that the law should be protecting them. Senator Gounardes is an attorney and participating in this letter shows that he unwilling to take the next step for these residents!

Dyker Heights residents are past the “politician writing a letter stage.”  The mayor should have been called in for a meeting with the politicians or the community by now. I’m surprised Max Rose didn’t request it for them.

The politicians know that Brannan ran on the idea that he was going to stop home conversions and he has already exhausted the letter writing game – see here.  This week, Senator Gournardes admitted to sending seven letters to NYC and not receiving any response (see here)…..and Gounardes didn’t follow up with a meeting when no one responded to his letters.

One of the problems with having politicians from the same party as the mayor is the politicians are less likely to fight for the people.  For the next election, I don’t see this changing.

Assemblywoman Frontus Fired Staffer

Assemblywoman Mathylde Frontus’ staffer, Marilyn Franks,  shared this post on Facebook. Ughhhh!

Yesterday, Assemblywoman Mathylde Frontus apologized for the message and said that Franks will undergo cultural sensitivity training.    Update 3/5 :  Story here

Frontus said in a statement. “This message violates the core values of my office, and this staffer has been warned and ordered to desist, and will complete additional cultural sensitivity training. Crisis can bring out latent fears and prejudices, but that is when it is most important for us to come together. Ignorance is no excuse for spreading hateful messages.”

Then this guy added to the problem by saying Assemblywoman Frontus shouldn’t have apologized. See here  He lost his position on March 4th.  See here

Today, Wednesday, March 4th, Assemblywoman Frontus fired Franks and issued this statement (see larger here):

Dr. Frontus has been clear from the very start. She won’t tolerate any hate towards anyone. Hopefully, the Spring will bring some good bills and a peaceful office for Dr. Frontus.

Man Impersonates Police Officer on 5th Avenue

A well-loved store owner on 5th Avenue in Bay Ridge was visited by a man who impersonated the NYPD.

The proprietor shared on social media that the fake officer showed a fake badge and asked the store owner if he had a computer.

I’m glad he is safe and his business wasn’t harmed. I’ve been visiting this store owner for over 20 years (long before I moved in Bay Rigde) – he’s a gem!

Wear Boots for This Meeting with Gounardes

If you are attending this meeting on March 4th and want to hear about Property Tax Reform – please wear your boots!

Senator Gounardes and Senator Benjamin said they were waiting for Mayor de Blasio’s Property Tax Commission before they could do anything.  Their response to the Property Tax Commission results says Gounardes is clueless about his area.

Instead of adjusting that rate for everyone who has been overpaying taxes, Senator Gounardes has alternate plans to help his friends – rather than the whole community.  Gounardes appeared on Channel 1 News to explain the bill (See here)  It will now be based on your income.  Why can’t Gounardes correct the system by lowering the tax rate?

Mayor Bill de Blasio was in Albany and apparently told legislators not to. Senator Gounardes forgot to include that in his February Newsletter. In fact, the February newsletter doesn’t even mention the word property tax.   Here you can see the Mayor telling them not to cap the system.  Gounardes should have spoken out and done the right thing for his neighborhood. But he folded to BDB.

This is the same politics we have always know.  Politicians making bills for their friends, instead of representing their community whose being overcharged by the de Blasio administration.  This week we saw Gounardes

What it comes down to is Gounardes is not able to speak up against the Democratic Leaders and doesn’t take the next step when people aren’t being helped.

Gounardes talked to Caranza – when he didn’t get a response to seven letters, Gounardes  didn’t take the next step to get a response….Calling for a meeting and talking to people in person isn’t his thing I guess.  See the video here.
