Gounardes Held a Zoom Meeting-Not for Bay Ridge

Senator Gounardes held a Zoom meeting for college students. One hundred people could have gone to the meeting, yet there were only fourteen people present at this CUNY RISING virtual meeting. Gounardes did not share the meeting on his Facebook or Twitter account.

Gounardes told the students that they had to figure out how to tell the story of the students over time, so the could be heard next year. Gounardes failed to tell their story this year, but he did approve a raise for Governor Cuomo!

Last year, Senator Gounardes told property owners that he was going to fight for them at the start of the next year. January came and Gounardes did barely anything in Albany except correct a loophole in a bill he made last year. Gounardes did the same thing in Albany and nothing changed. He had a year to figure out a strategy for home owners and didn’t bother to do his job!

Henderson didn’t realize that Andrew Gounardes is a picture-taking, press releases type of politician. He doesn’t do a lot, but our papers are filled with bills that never go anywhere. The bills he passes for special interest groups are not spoken about.

Gounardes brought nothing new to Henderson or the other students tonight. 

The only thing Gounardes said that was true was that his office puts out a lot of resources. Yes, they make graphics and put out links, but that’s not leadership. And most of the items are not helpful because they are general knowledge that everyone who has a computer knows.

Gounardes does not speak up in our community. A man killed his father and supposedly ate him, yet Gounardes didn’t say a word. Another guy took out an automatic gun and shot it at his neighbor’s home and Gounardes didn’t say anything to the community or even that block.   

Gounardes boasted that he shared about the Constitution on Twitter yesterday. Kudos to the moderator, Jamell Henderson for trying not to look bored! The Senator doesn’t understand that’s not how you share large documents on Twitter.

Gounardes discussed the census. He’s a middle-aged man and he doesn’t remember that most college students work and go to school, so the census isn’t a top concern for them.

Then they talked about the June primary elections. Everyone will cast an absentee ballot.

Usually the Zoom chats have a lot of comments and info, but there was nothing here for the people to discuss or comment on because it was basic – general knowledge everyone knows.  Henderson asked for questions many times.

A woman asked a great question about transparency in education. Yet, Senator Gounardes talked her in a circle and said that there needs to be accountability. He said there is no solution and there needs to be a systematic process. Gounardes didn’t offer to make anything more transparent for the woman. *If he was a decent leader, he would have said, “My office is going to follow up and get you that information.”  But that would be actual work and the senator isn’t up for that.

A college professor and friend of Gounardes said that they received a memo about cuts at the college. Gournades said it was very concerning and said “we” (not him) have to be vocal and organized. 

If you know how engaging a Zoom meeting can be, this was a Zoom #Fail.

Max Rose Brings Testing to Bensonhurst

Max Rose just returned from serving in the National Guard and he went to work right away to stop the coronavirus.  The fact that he added this place to Brooklyn, rather than Staten Island says a lot too.

Bay Ridge See the Market Value of Bezo’s Apartment

The headlines said that Jeff Bezos bought a new apartment in Manhattan – Good for him. I love Amazon and it’s nice to get a new place.

Although the apartment cost  $16 million, his market value is $1,403,746

Our home is a regular house – even on a good day it would not get anywhere near that price.   

No one in Bay Ridge/Dyker Heights  can get help because Mayor de Blasio won’t give up his property tax break. The people we have in office are his friends and won’t fight for us. 

Senator Andrew Gounardes told me last Spring he had “an idea” when I saw he hadn’t done anything about property taxes. 

The NYS Senate session ended and the bill was never heard because Gounardes didn’t put it in early enough.

This year, Senator Gounardes said, “I am waiting on the property tax commission.”   The mayor and Corey Johnson’s group released an incomplete report and Gounardes DID NOTHING. 

Even while the coronavirus was happening, Gounardes said, “Property taxes next week.”  And that just disappeared.

Bay Ridge Democrats Social Media Account

Senator Andrew Gounardes’ political club, the Bay Ridge Democrats don’t think women have the right to discuss politicians on social media. Yesterday, The Bay Ridge Democrats responded to me. 

I was taken back and told them to get lost.  When they didn’t, I  wrote to Chris McCreight on Twitter. McCreight, the Club’s President ignored me when I called him out for being a jerk. If it was a mistake, he would have corrected this right away. 

As you can see,  I asked a critic of the old senator if she thought Gounardes was any different.PEOPLE CAN ASK THAT.

The Bay Ridge Democrats know Senator Gounardes isn’t the leader he claimed he would be. In fact, he’s the reason many people can’t get help. Last year, Andrew said it was because he was new and that in 2020 he would get things done. Then he did nothing except advocate for a special interest group and correct his bill from last year that had a loophole.

Senator Gounardes was on social media today and saw what his club wrote to me. He didn’t speak out against his club for their immaturity and for being inappropriate. The tweets remained up. 

The Bay Ridge Democrats have been out-of-touch for awhile. They supported Bernie Sanders, while Democrats in the United States went with Biden. Even Democrats in Bay Ridge were even surprised that the club supported the socialist candidate and knew Bernie wouldn’t win throughout the US.

McCreight, Gounardes and others watched as the former senator’s staff played around like this online to try to intimidate people from sharing the truth.  We are surprised they are following this trend.   

A few days ago, Justin Brannan’s staffer responded to me after I called out Brannan for using press release politics during the pandemic. Councilman Brannan and Borough President Eric Adams wrote about hospitals that needed PPE,  while both men have city funds and could have purchased the PPE for the Brooklyn hospitals in need, rather than writing that article.  Even stores in our neighb0rhood have the supplies.

First, why is Councilman Brannan’s staffer writing to me? Brannan can defend his own stupidity. Then the  staffer pretended she didn’t know who I was.  I have told this woman my name and I discussed my background with her years ago.  I can’t help it if she has a bad memory!  This staffer worked for Brannan’s opponent in the 2017 and she probably didn’t appreciate me sharing Kadia Goba’s article about him,  but she shouldn’t have supported someone who couldn’t have explained what happened to the money!

I contributed to Councilman Brannan’s campaign, so he knows my name, address, phone number, email, job, etc.  Why is his staffer so out-of-touch that she wouldn’t know that?  Why didn’t Brannan correct her mistake? 

Pathetically, Councilman Justin Brannan’s Twitter account “Liked”  his staffer’s comment (see pic below), even though he knew it’s false. If you don’t want people to talk about you playing politics, stop filling the paper with nonsense AND stop taking money from developers. 

Since I had the staffer’s  attention, I asked her about her boss taking money from developer’s.  She didn’t deny that he was doing it or say she would look into it.  She was just silent.  This is how corruption happens in communities. People are silent because they are afraid to speak out against someone doing the wrong thing.  Corruption doesn’t like transparency or anyone asking for the truth.   

This was the second time a staffer from Brannan’s office has been unprofessional to me on social media. I could see if I was saying something untrue or insulting Brannan’s looks, but this response is inappropriate for someone saying the truth about something important in Bay Ridge. I have been speaking out against press release politics for years because it hurts our community. 

Years ago, the Bay Ridge Democrats had people who weren’t afraid and spoke out about corruption, but time and people change.  It still doesn’t make it right. I’ll still be here speaking the truth because there are enough people who want to know.

Mathylde Frontus Brought Masks to Residents

Look under the mailbox.

Some politicians only come to your door for signatures. Assemblywoman Mathylde Frontus and her group distributed masks to her constituents. You won’t see Mathylde loading our newspapers with press releases either. Thank you Mathyde for doing things differently. #BayRidge   

On the day, Governor Cuomo said masks were going to be worn in stores, Asssemblywoman Frontus shared that she had 1000 masks and asked for residents to sign up. I pasted it here and a neighbor wrote in:

Fairytale Island Was Burglarized

Someone broke into Fairytale Island on 3rd Avenue and 71st Street this morning. They smashed the glass on the front door of the play center. 

This place had the glass to their place broken before, but this was the first time it was burgularized.
