RIP Michael Halkias
RIP Michael Halkias, owner of Grand Prospect Hall! Channel 1 News said that he died from the coronavirus. Story here and here Michael’s daughter shared a tribute here.
Last month Halkias was quoted in the newspaper. See here
Many people celebrated important events of their life at Mr. Halkias’ catering hall.
Do you remember the commercials for the Grand Prospect Hall? His wife was such a Queen and in each commercial she said her memorable line, “We make your dreams come true.” Then Mr. Halkias would say, “Grand Prospect Hall” and the phone number.
I’ve been to some great parties at Grand Prospect Hall. On one visit, I stood on the stairs as a friend videotaped me. I said that Queen’s line, “We make your dreams come true.” Mr. Halkias showed up and said I had to do it again with him! While he was standing the stairs with me, I kept messing up my one line. But there is a good copy of the video out there.
Years after that party, my friend had a party for her daughter at Grand Prospect Hall. It was amazing! Every detail was taken care of and their party was perfect.
RIP Michael.

May 5, 2020Missing Girls and Women from Bay Ridge or Nearby
Some women and girls are missing from our area or nearby. The young girls could be runaways, but Amanda Bidetti doesn’t appear to be. She’s been missing for too long without a trace.
#1 – Sabrina Elbakhchouch went missing on April 26th. There’s very little information available about her and no updates.
#2 – Fourteen-year-old Jocelyn Torres went missing on April 20th
See here – last update she wasn’t found.
#3 Christina Acquaviva from Sunset Park (63rd and 5th Avenue) went missing on March 3rd. She’s only 15. 5’3″ 120 lbs. Story here
If you have any information about these girls or women, call the NYPD at 718-439-4236.
On May 7th, Chelsea Cobo from Bensonhurst will be missing for four years without a trace. See story. She was last seen on 68th Street and Bay Parkway. Cobo attended Bishop Kearney High School and is a mother to a little boy.
Maybe we need to pay more attention. How are women going missing so easy in Brooklyn with so many people and all of this technology around?

May 3, 2020Woman With a Drill on 86th Street
She was carrying a drill. The police took it.
They sent her to the hospital. I’m not sure it was a good time for her to go due to the coronavirus.
Women catch me off guard.
When I first moved to Bay Ridge, there was a woman acting shady near 86th Street. I kept a side eye on her as I was passing. And she had the nerve to say to me, “I see you looking at me. You are a bleep bleep bleep. Yes, I’m talking to you blondie.”

May 3, 2020Bay Ridge – 68th Street Armed Home Invasion
![]()
The Citizen App reported at 5:10 pm today there was an armed home invasion at 225 – 68th Street. See video
The police went to the home between Ridge and 3rd Avenue. Thank God the residents are fine. Ironically, nothing was reported stolen.
The suspect was described as wearing a black mask, sunglasses, dark grey hoodie and grey sweatpants.
It’s surprising to see this happening on a sunny Sunday afternoon in Bay Ridge, but the streets are quiet because most people are staying home.

May 3, 202030 Street Hotel Became a Shelter
![]()
The hotel on 30th Street and 4th Avenue became a men’s homeless shelter. There’s a pandemic going on and the city decided to do something about the homeless.
Many hotels in South Brooklyn hotels have become homeless shelters. There’s no demand for hotels in South Brooklyn, so when people see a new one coming into their neighborhood, they raise hell because they know that some crummy guy is trying to pump money from the city into his bank account by turning the hotel into a shelter.
Today, the people on 30th Street woke up to these flyers. But it’s too late for them. If they didn’t pretend they were Greenwood Heights and bonded with their neighborhood, Sunset Park – they probably wouldn’t be dealing with this now.
