Heads Up Bay Ridge: Bank Card Taken at Bank of America on 5th Avenue

A Bay Ridge neighbor shared this with the community so that everyone is aware that there is a thief at The Bank of America on 5th Avenue in Bay Ridge:

My father was at the BANK OF AMERICA on BAY RIDGE AVE AND 5TH AV, while he was about to insert his card into the ATM a guy came up to him snatched his card saying “oh that machine doesn’t work” directed him quickly to another machine and the guy tapped his card into the machine then left shorty after.

Once my dad made a check deposit into his savings account he noticed he was missing $1,500 (he then went on his app and noticed a $1,500 withdrawal) from his savings account. This all happened in a matter of seconds, he didn’t even see the thief take cash from the ATM. He still doesn’t know how all of this happened so quick.

We filed a claim with the bank and made a police report.

Everything doesn’t make sense and doesn’t add up on how quick things moved, but these thief’s are becoming quicker than ever.

Please be aware of your surroundings always. And never let anyone get too close to you. He never thought this could’ve happened to him but unfortunately these horrendous people are getting more slick by the day.

The man was a 40-50 yr old man around around 5’9 and 200 lbs

RIP Bay Ridge Man – How Did a Fire Start In The Deceased Man’s Apartment?

Early Sunday morning around 1:00 am, a man in his 70’s was found dead in his apartment on the 6th floor at 9949 Shore Road in Bay Ridge. He lived alone. News: https://abc7ny.com/post/fire-tears-brooklyn-apartment-hours-man-found-dead-bay-ridge/19727595

The police entered the man’s apartment through the window and discovered his body. On Saturday, the people in this apartment building smelled the decomposing body and then contacted the police. The police didn’t know how long the man was deceased.

The NYPD shared that the man died of natural causes.

A fire started in the man’s apartment around 1:00 am before the medical examiner arrived. Eighty firefighters came to put out the fire. Six apartments in the building were damaged by the water used to put out the fire.

When someone dies, the police secure the apartment and wait at the apartment until the body has been picked up by the medical examiner. A fire shouldn’t have been able to be started in the apartment because the NYPD should have been there.

May the man rest in peace. Prayers for his family and friends.

Tom Stanten Wants to Help Bay Ridge. He’s Running For Bay Ridge’s NYS Senate Seat

Tom Stanten has challenged Andrew Gounardes for the NYS Senate seat.

Gounardes plays on social media, but he is not responsive to problems in our community.

Stanten wrote: “We need faster, smarter construction on our sidewalks. Improving pedestrian sidewalks is important, but construction sites shouldn’t sit unfinished for days while inconveniencing the community. We especially need to think about older adults, families with strollers, and people with disabilities. At this location, a temporary pedestrian ramp was placed directly over a sewer grate. What happens when the wheels of a stroller, walker, or wheelchair get caught? What about someone who struggles to climb the temporary ramp and could fall? We can improve our sidewalks without creating new safety hazards. Get the work done safely, get it done right, and get it done on time.

Tom Stanten sees the garbage can problem still exists in Bay Ridge, even though Kayla Santosuosso wrote that she took care of it months ago. Notice Tom doesn’t play politics and mention Santosuosso. He just wants to deal with the problem:

Are we done with professional politicians, who are playing with lobbyists and not taking care of the community? We have watched lobbyists and developers win our community over and over!

Let’s gooooo Bay Ridge!

The 18th Avenue Feast in Brooklyn – August 2026

“When is the 18th Avenue Feast?” is usually the question people ask me as soon as Spring comes around.

Also known as the Festa di Santa Rosalia, this year is the 52nd Anniversary of the Feast of St. Rosalie.

The 18th Avenue Italian feast will be held from Thursday, August 20th to Sunday, August 30th from 68th Street to 75th Street.

People love to go on the first night because they are excited. Angelo Venuto’s family performs at 8:00 pm.

The Feast opens at 6:00 pm and closes at 11:00 pm. On the weekend, it opens at 2:00 pm.

The annual Cannoli Eating Contest is on Monday, August 24th at 6:30 pm outside of Villabate Bakery at 7001 – 18th Avenue (71st Street)

Oh yeah and the feast is different now than when you were younger. It still has the same magic for teens, who are enjoying a Summer night with their friends.

SAUSAGES AND ZEPPOLES

Lucy’s sausages and zeppoles will be there. Lucy or her son will be running the sausage booth. This is what Lucy’s sign looks like:
