July 5, 2026Ridgites Try to Help Dog in Locked Car on 78th Street
There is a dog locked in a car for over an hour on 78th Street between 4th and 5th Avenues. It’s too hot for a dog to sit in a car, unless then air conditioner is on.
Good Bay Ridge residents are trying to get the dog help.
They called the fire department and the fire department is closed today (that’s strange)
They called the police and the police called for backup to break a window. Then the owner came out of his house and the police gave him a warning.

July 5, 2026The Coast Guard Pulled Clearwater’s Sailboat Out of the Sail 4th 250 Procession Near Bay Ridge

In Bay Ridge, the Coast Guard pulled up to Clearwater’s sailboat and demanded that they turn around towards the Verrazzano Bridge because their sails were displaying two political messages. See video:
Clearwater’s sail had a banner which read, “Save the Clean Water Act.”

And on the other side of the sail, they had a banner which read: Indigenous Rights, Racial Justice, Climate Solutions.”

Clearwater followed their orders and returned south of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. After 3:00 pm, they were able to sail back. David Toman, the executive director said there was nothing offensive about their signage – it’s environmental awareness that so many people care about and is a necessity for our future.
Hudson River Sloop Clearwater is a non-profit organization, which has been providing environmental education programs in NY. Info:

Tonight, eight people were shot after watching fireworks in Coney Island around 10:30 pm. The eight people included two men, two women and four children (ages 6, 7, 12 and 14).
“Police say an unidentified male dressed in all black and wearing a ski mask walked up to the fence line along Surf Avenue around 10:37 p.m., where the family was celebrating, and fired multiple rounds into the courtyard.” Source: https://shorturl.at/3zZDv

The news initially reported that five people were shot (and two were children). It was also reported that the shooting happened near the Amphitheater, (the blue X above) but later the address was changed to West 31st Street (the red arrow).

All of the people who were shot are alive. A 21-year-old woman is in critical condition.

July 3, 2026Strong Winds in Our Area Broke Some Branches

July 3, 2026Mini Brownout in Bay Ridge – Short Power Outage

The power went out for a minute at 3:14 pm, but then came back on. It blinked off a few more times. Unfortunately, some Bay Ridge residents and businesses weren’t as lucky.
ConEd reduced the voltage in our area now, so large appliances may not work as well as usual. If your air conditioner doesn’t feel as cold, that’s the reason why.

Dyker Heights and Bath Beach residents are sharing that the same thing has happened in their area.
Some people lost cable/Internet for a few minutes through Spectrum as well.

Sadly, that small brownout cost some businesses their electrical devices. : (

July 3, 2026One Small Flag Added to The Verrazzano Bridge

Update: Putting up this small flag was a whole day of work for MANY people. Look: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1D2mEkPkbh
When Brooklynites heard that an American flag was being added to the Verrazzano Bridge for Americas 250th birthday, we were excited!
One small flag was added to the bridge. I don’t mean o sound ungrateful, but it’s America’s 250th birthday! Put ten of these flags on the bridge.

Photo: Tom Hilton
Update: The flag looks better to those who are driving on the bridge:

Skinflints Restaurant at 7902 – 5th Avenue has a bigger flag than the bridge. Go to Skinflints!

Photo: John L.
We envisioned a flag like this because many of people remember they did this in 1976:
