Homes on 10th Avenue Are Still Flooding When It Rains – Even Though Money Was Set Aside to Fix This Problem

Our neighbor, Brad appeared at tonight’s Community Board 10 Meeting.

Brad lives on 10th Avenue and the project to redo the sewers on 10th Avenue has not been started. Every time it rains, Brad and his neighbor’s basements are flooding. This has been going on for years. Brad and his neighbors appeared at Community Board 10 meetings regularly since 2022. See:

Brad said the money has been set aside for the 10th Avenue sewer and has even been doubled. Now Brad is asking the community to help him and his neighbors get help because politicians and Community Board 10 isn’t doing anything.

Why is Community Board 10 not taking action for Brad? The 10th Avenue project (and other projects that haven’t been completed) should be mentioned every meeting until they are handled.

Student Hit By Car Outside Poly Prep School and How Gerrymandering Stops Safety in This Area of Our District

Dr. Noni Thomas López, the head of Poly Prep school spoke at Community Board 10’s meeting tonight

Poly Prep is calling for safer street design for the area outside of their school on 7th Avenue and 92nd Street because there were two students who had incidents with vehicles while leaving school.

On Saturday March 7th, a Poly Prep student was struck by a vehicle. Her mother was picking her up. The student was knocked unconscious. Fortunately she is okay and she is recovering at home.

On Saturday, March 14th, a student was almost hit in the crosswalk outside the school. The driver drove past a steady red light and nearly hit the student.

Sadly, this area of Bay Ridge was gerrymandered out of the district, so you won’t see politicians from Bay Ridge even mentioning this area outside of Poly Prep! Yes, this street is not part of their district, even though it is part of our community. David Carr is the City Councilman from this area and he is very responsive to this community.

The school wants the DOT to do a safety review of 7th Avenue near Poly Prep to make the area safer for Poly Prep students.

Why Are Bikes & Scooters Still Riding on the Sidewalks in Our Community?

At tonight’s Community Board 10 Meeting, people called for safety measures to stop bikes and electric scooters being used on the sidewalk.

People who are riding electric scooters on the street are endangering the safety of pedestrians. Residents are concerned about the safety of seniors living in our area.

Currently, there is no enforcement when electric bike or scooter riders break the law. No one is ticketed, so they keep doing it.

This issue has come up at Community Board 10 before, but since the 68th Precinct liaison is not present at this meeting, nothing changes.

Many people speed in school zones and this should have been done before adding red light cameras to areas!

At tonight’s Community Board 10 Meeting, someone asked if this speed limit was during school days (and not on weekends. This article says it is for all times – including evenings and weekends.

Proof That Lobbyists Won in Bay Ridge

This is ta new Citibike rack on Shore Road and 91st Street – it is across the street from Shore Hill Housing for seniors.

There was plenty of room on the sidewalk for Lyft to install the rack.

There’s room for Citibikes and for parking…not one or the other. Should there be 48 stations in one small community? No, unless these stations are being used (which many aren’t).

Two blocks away is another Citibike setup.
