Community Board 10 Voted Against the Rezoning at The Staples Lot in Bay Ridge – May 18, 2026

A lot of great Bay Ridge residents attended the Community Board 10 meeting to speak up for Bay Ridge and urge Community Board 10 to vote against the Staples development.

Thank you to those Bay Ridge residents who spoke out against the overdevelopment, flooding on 94th Street and everyone who spoke for Bay Ridge. One resident shared that Brooklyn needs better affordable housing and that we need to reject what isn’t working for NYC.

There were shenanigans going on at this meeting. But there was also several newly appointed CB 10 members including Vinnie Gentile. Gentile reminded everyone that the developer benefitted from the City of Yes already and he should be happy with that!

Bay Ridge OG’s got tired of the nonsense at the meeting. They called for a vote to stop the debate and force the vote (it was so BROOKLYN-like – I lovedddddd it).

Thank you Barbara V. for calling for parliamentary procedure for the vote (I’ve never seen this happen). Watch at 1:32:

The vote first passed. They then proceeded to vote on the motion. Hands were up all over the room – 27 against the rezoning and for a neighborhood plan with a R6A rezoning recommendation (Two CB 10 members were opposed) . Online, I saw that a R6A zoning in NYC is up to 75 feet) – usually 6-8 stories. **This is down from the R7A that the CB 10 committee voted on May 7th. See here: https://shorturl.at/QdI9P

Also tonight:

a) Nine new members were added to Community Board 10 – Vincent Gentile was one of those members. That may have helped tonight.

b) Community Board 10 voted against using 3rd Avenue for a truck route – 7th Avenue will still be used.

c) 800 schools will get 15 MPH speed limits. Fourteen schools in Bay Ridge are included in this plan. CB 10 wants additional schools added (21 schools do not have slow zones). The Mayor said more zones are coming.

d) The dates were given for the Open Streets application for Summer Stroll. Jaynemarie announced July 4th, but I think she meant July 24th, July 31st, August 7th and August 14th.

Hugs,
marlene
