Senator Steve Chan Wrote The Bill We Need

Yesterday, I read the NYT’s article and then wrote about Connor Barr and how the law needed to be changed, so that drug dealers could be charged with murder if someone died from the drugs they sold them.
I didn’t know that Steve Chan introduced “Sasha’s Bill.” It’s exactly the bill we need NY to pass.

Last year, Sasha Tarelkine, a 14-year-old Brooklyn Tech student died from fentanyl poisoning. Her parents spoke out about it in hope that it would help other families. See their writing:

Senator Chan’s Bill:

Senator Chan also has a bill to educate students about fentanyl. (https://nysenate.gov/legislation/bills/2025/S7140
Almost ten years ago, my friend died from a deadly mixture of drugs from a drug dealer in Bay Ridge:
Bay Ridge residents, Senator Andrew Gounardes has not co-sponsored either bill (there’s no lobbyist here). Gounardes represents the area where Brooklyn Tech High School is, so he should have spoken out about this and taken action!
If you are a friend of Gounardes, urge him to cosponsor S7140A and S7141A.
Hugs,
marlene
