A New Pope for the World

Today, a new Pope was chosen in Rome. U.S. Cardinal Robert Prevost from Chicago has been elected the pope. He had to secure at least 89 votes of the 133 cardinals participating.
He took the name Pope Leo XIV.
Pope Leo is the first Pope from the United States in the 2000 years of the Catholic church.
Pope Leo’s first words to the people were : “Peace be with you all,” The people were very happy and waved flags from countries throughout the world.
Pope Leo is 69-years-old. He was a missionary for many years in Peru. He speaks Spanish, Italian and English.
The word “Pontifex” is used for the Pope. It also means bridge-builder. May Pope Leo XIV bring more people together and to the church.
Hugs,
marlene
