Two Fires Today in Southern Brooklyn

If you smelled smoke in Brooklyn today, it was because there were two fires.
The first fire was on at a home at 314 – Avenue P (and West 2nd Street. Video below (See News)

This building had been boarded up for over a year. Ying Tan shared that she spoke with a firefighter, who said a squatter started the fire. Ying Tan has stayed on top of the fires which are being caused by squatters.
Another fire occurred in the neighborhood at a house that has been boarded up for at least a year. According to the fireman, a squatter entered the house and started this destructive fire, which ended up affecting the neighboring house as well. The other fire that happened today around 3:00 pm. There was a fire in an apartment building on Fort Hamilton and Gelston:

Thankfully, the firefighters put this fire out fast. (See video)
Tom Hilton shared this photo and an update on 5/3/24: “Windows boarded. The apartment is padlocked which means no one lived there as the door can’t be opened from the inside. No power – a lot of debris near the front door.”
