WOW $40,000 to the Brooklyn Alliance?

I saw Councilman Brannan gave $40,000 to the Brooklyn Alliance Inc.
What’s the Brooklyn Alliance? The Brooklyn Alliance appears to be a not-for-profit for the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. See info (here)

That’s odd! Why is money set aside for Bay Ridge given to the Brooklyn Chamber?

I could understand if the Brooklyn Chamber was assisting businesses in Bay Ridge, but strangely only TWO Bay Ridge businesses are listed in their directory for Brooklyn. (See here)

The Brooklyn Chamber even charges people to have a document notarized. (See here)
That’s $40,000 that our community doesn’t have – anyone can apply for that money, not just business owners in Bay Ridge.
I could see if the Chamber was helping bring businesses to Bay Ridge, but it’s not doing that! We have empty stores all over the community! Even when new businesses open, The Brooklyn Chamber doesn’t announce or promote them!
I looked to see what other council members gave to this not-for-profit. #SomethingIsntRight here.

When the Brooklyn Chamber announced the Brooklyn Made Store at Industry City, they said they received a grant.

It looks like our tax dollars funded a grant to pay the rent at a shop in Industry City so some people could sell the items! THAT’S NOT HOW BUSINESS WORKS!
There is a Chamber of Commerce for each borough. None of the other boroughs have this expense.
Hugs,
marlene
