Community 10’s Zoning Meeting on 11/29 – NYC’s City of Yes Needs Clarification

Over 200 Bay Ridge residents were at St. Anselm tonight to hear about the “City of Yes” and rezoning.
Community Board 10 will have a future meeting about the homeless shelter planned for 6530 – 4th Avenue in Bay Ridge.

Stephanie from Community Board 10 had an excellent presentation for Bay Ridge – watch the video here to see her presentation!
C stands for commercial. Bay Ridge is mostly composed of C1 and C2 districts. Here are there locations:

Overnight commercial parking MAY be allowed in these areas with the new rezoning.

The City of Yes is a plan for modern day zoning. After NYC Planning employees spoke, I thought “The City of Yes” didn’t do a good job in relaying the new zoning to Community Boards. Councilman Brannan should have taken a more active role in clarifying elements of the rezoning. Brannan’s literature should have explained this to the community by now.

For years, our neighborhood has many empty storefronts on every avenue.

Community Board 10 explained why each proposal of the City of Yes was overreaching.

A lot of these zoning changes don’t seem like they will benefit Bay Ridge.

This businesses seemed the least invasive, but if you make allowances for some, then they will push for more…..to get to things they want.

Right before 8:00 pm, politicians and then the public comments started.
Assemblyman Lester Chang knocked it out of the park. Lester’s a very good leader!
Then Alec Brook-Krasny spoke. Someone yelled over him – I couldn’t understand what she was yelling about, but she is mad.
Senator Andrew Gounardes stood in the back and did not speak at the meeting. (Source) Is Gounardes a supporter of the City of Yes? Senator Gounardes never mentioned the rezoning project in any of his mailings.
What wasn’t said tonight is that The City of Yes legalizes many garage and basement apartments that Gounardes spoke out against years ago. (Source)
Councilman Justin Brannan was not present. There was no representative from his office to make a statement.
Vivian got up and spoke. She was excellent! Vivian and Richard Barsamian said what Councilman Brannan should have said.
Chuck Otey showed up, looked great and spoke well.
John Quaglione got up and spoke about property taxes! He was very good too.
Josephine said to send comments and questions to Community Board 10 and they would put them all together.

December 18th is the next Community Board 10 Meeting.
Hugs,
