Gounardes & Brook-Krasny Late to CB 10 Meeting – Then Ranted

Senator Andrew Gounardes and Assembly Brook-Krasny both showed up late to the Community Board 10 meeting. Then both wanted unlimited time to speak. I could understand if they were productive in Albany, but they aren’t.
Our community should vote both of them out because they are unable to do the job they said they were going to do.
Andrew Gounardes spoke for nearly 10 minutes. (See video 1:34 – 1:43)

Again, Senator Gounardes wasn’t productive for Bay Ridge while he was in Albany. Gounardes has been in office for four years – he told me two years he ago he was going to take care of property taxes, but he failed to do the job. Gounardes spent a lot of time fighting for congestion pricing which would charge Brooklynites $23.00 to drive into Manhattan for work or to see a doctor.

Gounardes failed to tell Community Board 10 that he co-sponsored legislation for the Clean Slate bill this year. (Info here)

The Clean Slate bill allows people who committed murder to get a clean slate eight years after they get out of jail. This bill passed in both houses, even though it would violate the NYS Victim’s Bill of Rights. (See below – from page 2 here) It is waiting Kathy Hochul’s signature.

While Gounardes ranted, CB 10’s leadership smiled and nodded – she did not stop him and tell him that he went over time, as she does with other politicians.

Assemblyman Alec Brook-Krasny was a Democrat for years. He became a Republican last year. Brook-Krasny ranted about taxes being high because the majority in the Senate and Assembly aren’t working together.

Brook-Krasny talked about the Declaration of Independence and self-evident truth. Then he said, “Who knows what self-evident truth is – whose boy and whose girl.” CB-10 leaders did not respond to this language!

Assemblyman Brook-Krasny should worry less about people’s gender and do his job! Brook-Krasny said that he was going to lower taxes when he ran for office. We should have seen him protesting outside Kathy Hochul’s office with other leaders. Former Assembly member, Mathylde Frontus didn’t do anything about taxes either. WE NEED SOMEONE WHO WANTA TO WORK FOR US – not play politics and then rant at a Community Board 10 meeting.
Later at the CB 10 Meeting, one man spoke up about what Assemblyman Brook-Krasny said. (Video below)
Online today, the Bay Ridge Democrats wrote that Assemblyman Brook-Krasny said dangerous anti-trans rhetoric.

Alec Brook-Krasny defended himself and said he always stood up against hate. (See the message here)

Assemblyman Brook-Krasny didn’t understand how hurtful his comments are to members of the LGBTQ community or their families.

At the end of this CB 10 Meeting, one member spoke up and said that the politicians shouldn’t be able to speak that long at the CB 10 meeting. AMEN! The politicians (or their staffer’s) topics should be screened to see if their information is beneficial to the community.
Justin Brannan is the head of the NYC Finance Committee. Why are we seeing billions of dollars cut from NYC schools? Brannan’s staffer did not mention anything about cutting the budgets of 1364 schools (218 schools are receiving increases).

Other Community Boards have better meetings because they don’t give meeting time to the politicians – they allow them to speak at the end.
I wrote to Community Board 10’s previous leader about politicians speaking at the beginning of CB 10’s Meeting. She responded that politicians were providing the community information. Not one politician provided our community (this information) that an out-of-district publication did. Community Board 10 should consider moving political banter to the end of the meeting!
