Andrew Gounardes Voted for Clean Slate – Criminals Records Wiped Clean at 3 or 7 Years

Not only did Senator Gounardes vote ‘AYE’ in favor of giving former criminals a Clean Slate, Andrew Gounardes was a co-sponsor of the bill. (See News here)

Thousands of criminals will have their records automatically wiped clean three years after a misdemeanor and seven years after a felony. (See here)

Under Gounardes’ Clean slate, the man who was arrested for allegedly murdering John Sarquiz would qualify for a Clean Slate.

“Phillip Mastridge (aka Meyer) went to prison for a manslaughter conviction from May 2001 through July 2009. (Info) If Clean Slate passed earlier, seven years would have sealed his record in 2016.

While the new version of Clean Slate excludes Class A felonies, many violent crimes like manslaughter are prosecuted as Class B felonies. Besides manslaughter, kidnapping, burglary, arson, and robbery using a firearm would all qualify for a clean slate. Andrew Gounardes is an attorney and knows this!

Schools don’t hire people whose background checks are not clean. But now their background will be clear. Why hasn’t the Brooklyn Reporter done a story or interviewed Andrew Gounardes and written about this change in law?

Staten Island District Attorney, Michael McMahon is a Democrats and spoke out about the Clean Slate Act.

When John Sarquiz was murdered, Senator Gounardes did not share any information with the community or even express sympathy to Sarquiz’ family. This bill is a slap in the face to the NYPD, and to victim’s families.

Hopefully, Governor Kathy Hochul doesn’t sign the bill.

Assemblyman Alec Brook-Krasny , Assemblyman Mike Tannousis, Assemblyman Lester Chang all voted against Clean Slate.
