As NYC Cuts Money to Education – 3K & CUNY, Another Ferry for Bay Ridge is Being Subsidized

Jada Camille, journalist at the Brooklyn Paper wrote about a new ferry from Bay Ridge to Wall Street. There already is an existing ferry that stops at Bay Ridge (see here), but this new line will go from Bay Ridge to Wall Street in 20 minutes.

Coney Island doesn’t have ANY ferry service. It takes 1.5 hours to get from Coney Island to Manhattan, but Bay Ridge is getting a second ferry.

While that sounds good to many Ridgites, Jada Camille failed to mention what this will cost NYC and how NYC taxpayers will be footing the bill for a few spoiled NY’ers.

Currently, ferry rides in NYC are $4.00 each way. Of course four dollars doesn’t cover the cost of a ferry ride.

In July, The Post revealed that each ferry ride cost $17.32 ($14.57 was being subsidized by NYC for each $2.75 ferry ticket.) (Source) It was also revealed that the true cost per ticket was under reported.

Who could forget Brad Lander’s pursed lips as he outed the EDC for paying $2.8 million more than the fair market value for a ferry? (Here) That’s insane!

I was surprised to see Councilman Brannan pushing for a second ferry for Bay Ridge, when he knows NYC isn’t in a position to subsidize another boat.

Last year, Brannan didn’t do anything when $370 Million was cut from NYC schools. (See here) Brannan was the head of Finance for NYC Council and the court pointed out that proper procedures for the budget were not followed. (Source)

Many Bay Ridge residents aren’t going to take a boat to Manhattan because they would need to take a 20-minute bus ride to get to the Pier. Why haven’t politicians worked to fix the R train?

Info

Other NYC Council members have spoke out how reducing NYC’s budget by one billion+ will cut critical public services from residents, but Brannan has not.

By now, Senator Gounardes should have protested the Mayor as NYC cut CUNY’s funds from from $234 million in 2022 to $194 million in the 2023. (Source)

Bay Ridge, the money just isn’t there for subsidized boat rides to Manhattan, due to billions of dollars being needed for to help the migrants. (Source)

For Jada Camille, the politician’s story is all she was concerned about, not the cost or the impact on the community! Camille doesn’t understand why you or I would be annoyed with the incomplete reporting.

Everyone in this community has watched people get free lunch and our taxes increase every year!

We need new leaders in Bay Ridge who won’t just say they will fix the R train, but actually do it for the whole community!

marlene
