Senator Andrew Gounardes Refuses to Help The Homeless Men on R Train Hotel

This Summer, Senator Andrew Gounardes took photos in the 95th Street station and told us that NYC was checking in on the people on the train.
He wanted your vote and told you what you wanted to hear.

No one is checking on all of these tired NY’ers, who go underground to the R train hotel.

At last weeks Community Board 10 Meeting, a mother commented that homeless men were coming out of the 95th Street subway station. No one is helping them and they have no where to go!

Today, Senator Gounardes sat around and talked about the good old days when he was thinking of being a priest. Seriously, Brooklyn Give Me a Break! Brannan and our lobbyist-loving senator have looked away from the homeless in this community for almost two years!

These are people’s family members and they need help.

We need new politicians representing Bay Ridge. We need people who aren’t afraid to speak with these people and help them get the services and help they need.

A Department of Homeless Servies employee was seen on the train in a heated cars that DIDNT have any homeless people. It’s an easier morning to say there were no homeless on the train.

So we want the politicians to do something about the homeless but what? Deal with them seems like shorthand for “make them disappear”. I’m puzzled by the concern for homeless when this was a past blog entry: November 19, 2022
“30% of Shore Hill Housing in Bay Ridge Will Be For Homeless Seniors” with the added comment that “people in the neighborhood were blindsided by this”. Help them? Don’t help them? Make them invisible? Show some charity? Yes, I understand this is a problem because of so many other factors as to why anyone is homeless but if we are “our brothers keepers” why do we still try to be an only child?

Carol,
NYC has thousands of apartments for homeless – this has been written about extensively: https://nypost.com/2022/04/26/nycs-filled-just-200-of-2500-empty-apartments-for-the-homeless/
All of the people on the train need help – more than just an apartment. Sadly, residents like you sit by and write to try to attack me, rather than to hold politicians accountable. That’s why our pols are accepting lobbyist money – because their families and you won’t hold them accountable.
The Shore Hill Senior Center was a shock to many people as the developer never mentioned apartments for the homeless in the Spring when they spoke. I wrote about that meeting last Spring because no one was sharing with the community what was going on. When I know something isn’t covered, I make sure to be very detailed. The developer told the residents he was going to make changes to the plans. He made hardly any changes, except to change the sewer location. Then the housing the homeless was announced. The people were shocked and they weren’t counting on Commmunity Board 10 supporting them (because Community Board 10 has allowed lobbyists and developers to win in other areas). The developer will be back again.
So yes, Carol I can call for the homeless on train to be housed and receive services and I can also write in favor of the neighbors at Shore Hill, who were blind sighted by information at the meeting that the councilman should have informed them about.
