Andrew Gounardes Failed to Fix the Red Light Camera Law So Politicians Don’t Care About Tickets

Politicians, including Andrew Gounardes’ friends speed past the red light cameras. Gounardes knew that and didn’t fix the bill. Instead, he added more cameras.
The Transportation Chairperson for NYC Council, Selvena Brooks-Powers from Queens received 17 speeding tickets in 11 months. (See article here)
If people feared fines higher than $50 or thought they could lose their license after 5 tickets, then they wouldn’t abuse the cameras. Senator Andrew Gounardes didn’t care about NYC.

I don’t understand the criticism in this post. The article is about a Councilmember who racked up a lot of speeding violations.
What fix regarding red light cameras are you advocating for? What does it have to do with Councilmember Brooks-Powers getting a lot of speeding tickets?
Andrew’s bill on speed cameras, which as a Bay Ridge resident with a young child, is one I really appreciate. A bill where people “could lose their license” after 5 speeding tickets would have zero chance of passing the Legislature or getting signed, of course.
You pepper a lot of your posts with comments about Gounardes, so I understand you dislike him for whatever reasons, but I’m a local resident who appreciates his advocacy on cameras.

Joseph,
Andrew didn’t pass a bill that someone will lose their license. He passed a bill only for more speed cameras.
The fact that you and others think that someone will lose their license is the reason I dislike Gounardes – he isn’t honest with people.
As the law stands now, people only pay a $50 fine and that is the reason they keep speeding, like Councilwoman Brooks-Powers.
Four politicians received excessive red light cameras so far: Justin Brannan, Brad Lander, Jumaane Williams and this woman. If these people from a small population are receiving multiple tickets, are their thousands of NYC residents that are doing the same?
Were the lights put in to make the roads safer or just collect money from tickets?
