Eric Adams Did Not Get Endorsed by The Bay Ridge Dems – Gounardes and Brannan’s Political Club

The Bay Ridge Democrats endorsed Dianne Morales. We are glad to see they didn’t endorse Eric Adams.
Eric Adams took three days to show up when the prisoners at MDC Detention Center were freezing. If he lives in Brooklyn, why did it take three days? If he was away, why didn’t he fly back immediately and help?
Eric Adams and Justin Brannan have been pushing a drone bill for REBNY and the Drone Lobbyists – even during the pandemic. (See here) It’s clear these politicians put money over people.
If you are into defunding the police (we are not) by three billion dollars, then Diane Morales is your woman. (See here) I didn’t realize the Bay Ridge Democrats were so against the police!
Hugs,
marlene

This woman’s polling is awful. Waste of an endorsement. Even though I seriously doubt the Bay Ridge Democrats endorsement carries any serious weight city-wide. Interesting to see Justin and Andrew couldn’t influence this at all. Especially Andrew, isn’t Eric Adams his old friend?

Hi. You are mislabeling an effort to improve service to the community as “defunding the police.” The point is – the police mandate is too broad and they have been unsuccessful in performing their duties to serve the public in certain areas. The idea is to reallocate the duties and the associated funding to different groups who would be better able to serve the community in this area – e.g. mental health or homeless groups. The police budget is not an entitlement to them, nor do more police = more safety. If you want to raise an issue, how about looking at how much the NYPD wastes on settling cases that their own cops have mishandled. That’s the massive problem here. NYPD is an old institution that needs modernization. Think about it!

I didn’t label it as defunding the police, NYC Council CHOSE those words. Justin Brannan wrote on social media about his vote to defund the police and he later deleted it. If there was nothing wrong with what he wrote, why did he delete it? See here
While this may be one of your first times visiting this page, I have written about how reform is needed in the NYPD. I’ve been pretty vocal that principals should be able to decide what their schools need. What works in some schools where officers are friendly and are trusted by the students and staff, doesn’t happen in every school. If politicians listened to the principals, they would understand what is needed.
If NYC Council was reforming, they would have made a move to immediately remove officers from several schools and try a new program with counselors, but they didn’t do that. If they wanted to make the change, they had the opportunity to put in a trial program and test it out at several schools that needed their help (the students spoke on the news about their schools), but they didn’t do anything. I work in a school and when the security officers went under the NYPD, there was a great improvement in their moral and respect as well.
At no point should Justin Brannan or NYC Council used the words: “Defund the police.” How demeaning to people who serve our community. There are some really good police officers who really care about their jobs. Making change doesn’t mean you degrade a whole department of people because there are plenty of people who are doing their job and doing it well. Being respectful to them is important. Why didn’t NYC Council choose the words: “Reform the Police?” Because they were playing politics and they think that is what progressives want to hear.
