What Wadzanai Mhute Won’t Tell You About Bay Ridge….

New York Times journalist, Wadzanai Mhute wrote an article about Bay Ridge. (Here)
Why would Mhute leave out very important information about property taxes in Bay Ridge? In her article she names several residents. Why wouldn’t any of them mention how high the taxes are here? (More than twice what Park Slope pays.)
New home buyers have their tax payments added to their mortgage. If their property tax is $10,000, then they need to budget an extra $900 a month for the taxes.
Andrew Gounardes, the senate representative thought it was important for the rest of NYS to get a tax break, but not NYC. (See here) Talk about having the wrong person representing a community! The same guy found time to take money from a developer though. See here
Crime is up in Bay Ridge. I guess that isn’t important to Wadzanai Mhute.

Grand Larceny – Auto is way up!
At least the FBI hasn’t come to Bay Ridge for a federal drug raid, like they did a few blocks away in Dyker Heights. (See here)
In July, people in our neighborhood chanted “Death to America. Death to Israel.” No one stood up and spoke out against this. In other neighborhoods, NYC council members stand up to hate speech. Here it is overlooked. A week after it happened, Justin Brannan spoke about it in a private Facebook group. (See here) No newspaper mentioned the video, even though hundreds of people spoke out against it on social media and urged Andrew Gounardes to speak out against the hate. Like I said, the representatives here are not good!
After that incident, Lee and I talked about moving out of Bay Ridge. : ( I thought I would always live here.
Two women were sexually assaulted within five blocks of my home this year – that’s never happened before. In one situation, a woman fought off her attacker. Again, not one politician spoke about it. (See here)
Sammy Hamden, a new business owner in Bay Ridge was shot and no one spoke about it. The police, politicians and jounalists didn’t want us to know. Sammy went to the Daily news to alert the neighborhood (See here)
A dozen years ago, I was a woman living outside Bay Ridge reading all the information I could about the area! Mhute’s article would not have been helpful.
The best advice given to me about buying a home in Bay Ridge was to make sure to buy a home with a driveway. Parking spots are rare and people drive around for over an hour waiting for a spot.
Typical day of street fighting because of illegally double parked cars here in Bay Ridge. #bayridge pic.twitter.com/jd6SL4myPY

While Wadzanai Mhute thought a home with a $1.2 million price tag was “affordable,” we don’t! If you aren’t attached to the city, there are better deals outside the area.
I don’t understand what the New York Times has against Bay Ridge. Remember when the NY Times wrote about Joe Joyce from JJ Bubbles? (Info here)

How is running a typical NY Times puff piece neighborhood profile having “something against” Bay Ridge? All their neighborhood profiles accentuate the positive and ignore the negative. Have you ever read any of them before?

I read the papers every week when I was looking for a home. Profiles were a lot shorter and there were best deal homes on the page. Newspapers in other areas don’t hide crime, politicians acting inappropriately or highlight the neighborhood like we are in a 1950’s tv sitcom.
