Why Didn’t the Muslim Community Do More to Help Max Rose This Election?
.

In 2018, the news wrote about how the Muslim vote helped Max Rose defeat Dan Donovan.
Max Rose was a great advocate for the Muslim Community! See here and here Other politicians praised Rose for speaking out against the Muslim ban. (See here)

In January 2020:

Why didn’t the Muslim community do more to back Rose?
We saw very little action from the Muslim community this year. A small portion of the area was covered with Max Rose before the election a car drove around the neighborhood and made an announcement to vote for Max Rose.
What happened to these women who were so enthusiastic in the 2018 election? (See here) This year they were very quiet!

During the Presidential primary, Rose supported Bloomberg which angered some Muslims:

This Summer there was a meeting on Zoom which run by an Arab American group. Rose, Gounardes and Brannan were present. The first question they asked Rose was about defunding the NYPD. Max said he did not support that. They brought the question up again later! He answered the same way. Justin Brannan had that vote in City Council – not Max Rose.
Here there seemed to be support for Max Rose:

Yet, the Women’s Empowerment Coalition of NYC didn’t seem to care about any of the 2020 elections since their last tweet was on October 12th – see here.
I asked Muslim neighbors what was different about this election. One neighbor told me he didn’t vote. He head there were long lines and he didn’t have the time. Since he knew Trump was going to lose, he wasn’t worried. Another neighbor said he went and voted and although he voted for the all the Democrats, he didn’t feel anyone in the community talked about it. People were more concerned about voting out Trump.
In 2018, Dan Donovan held NY-11’s seat. Donovan was a Trump supporter and supported the president in banning travel from a handful of Muslim-majority countries. (Source)

It 2018’s election, it wasn’t just the Muslims that were against Dan Donovan. Many activists were against him. Donovan refused to hold townhall meetings and didn’t feel he had to answer to the people.
In 2017 and 2018, Democratic activists were EVERYWHERE! They weren’t just people who were hired – they were actual residents who believed in Max Rose. Some believed in 70% of what Max Rose said and still supported him 100%. Democrats – both socialists and moderates were tired of the Republican stronghold and worked together to get Rose in office.
Why were they quiet this year? Many on the left, especially the socialists lost interest in Rose after Rose wavered on impeaching the President. (See here) Although Rose voted to impeach the president, the socialists wanted him to be more radical. Many vowed not to help him in his re-election during that time.
Nicole Malliotakis’s campaign was loud and clear. As crime rose in NYC and businesses were forced to be closed, people saw Malliotakis as a leader. Her television ads slammed Rose for defunding the police and bail reform (those votes were done by Brannan and Gounardes).
Mostly, Max Rose’s campaign was run differently this time around. While they ran those annoying television advertisements, there weren’t people doing the footwork.
