Why Doesn’t Rosa Adams Want Us to Know What Happened at Angel Guardian Home?

The main building of Angel Guardian Home was landmarked. The landmarking hearing happened online.

Some strange things went on with this property, but the Brooklyn Paper served us a “biscuits and honey” story.

WHY?

Rose Adams wrote about in the Brooklyn Paper, but left out so many important things. Why wouldn’t she want Brooklyn to know what REALLY happened there?

Adams printed several stories on Angel Guardian home, but she failed to tell seven important things about this property:

1) Two politicians, Andrew Gounardes and Justin Brannan accepted money from the developer. That was shared by an excellent journalist, Ariama Long (see here)

Since Adam’s story didn’t include the money exchange, Councilman Brannan shared it on Facebook and Twitter and claimed he was helpful outside of the district! (See here)

2) This deal with a developer WIN by a landslide!

The original property was purchased for 37.5 million. The breakup and sale of the property is public record. Why didn’t Rose Adams share how much the developer made in the deal?

We bring this up because Rosa Adam’s editor, Meaghan McGoldrick worked for the Brooklyn Eagle a few years ago. While she was there she wrote a shocking story which revealed a that the developer of the Nathan’s property doubled his millions when he sold the build to NYC Schools. Councilman Brannan helped the purchase happen. McGoldrick’s original article was posted online and then taken down and edited. (See the original here)

3) Why is Brannan named in the NYC lobbyist database for Angel Guardian Home? Why did a lobbyist spend all of this money if Brannan “was already helping.”

You can see this entry in the Database – go here and in the subject line put Angel Guardian. Then search.

4) Why would a lobbyist want Brannan’s attention when Councilman Carlos Menchaca is the Councilman for that area? Rose Adams didn’t think it was strange that another Councilman was interfering in another area.

5) Senator Andrew Gounardes is a history buff and was president of the Bay Ridge Historical Society. Why didn’t he mention landmarking Angel Guardian Home to the Historical Society?

Gounardes taught residents about about landmarking. Yet, Andrew Gounardes and Assemblyman Peter Abbate deferred to an out-of-district Councilman to speak at the meeting on landmarking for the building. Didn’t Rose Adams find it strange that a history buff would defer to Brannan, who doesn’t have expertise in the area? We imagine many deals go down like this in NYC – because no one is watching and it’s allowed!

6) Rose Adams followed the Angel Guardian Home story for a long time. At the Landmarking Hearing, Commission Bland noted at 22:35 in this video that he was surprised there was so much construction on the site. I’m not a landmarking expert, but when a property is being considered for landmarking isn’t constructed halted until AFTER the hearing? We’re surprised a landmarking expert, like Senator Andrew Gounardes didn’t call for a stop to the construction, until after the Commission had made a decision.

7) Why did the Landmarking Commission allow an out-of-district Councilman to speak for a community that didn’t elect him? Isn’t the purpose to having elected leaders speak at these meetings is for them to represent the will of the people. Landmarking in NYC must not be important to them. Why can’t residents challenge the landmarking decision?

On the day before Election Day, I noticed Rose Adams tweet about crime being down in the 68th Precinct.

Here are the stats:

I responded to Adams that two women were raped within five blocks of my house this year. That’s never happened before!

Shootings and stabbings are happening weekly, so no one can say crime is down. Three people were murdered in our area this year, as opposed to one last year. When a new business owner went to the news because he was shot at while setting up his restaurant (See here)

Most alarming is that politicians in this area have been mostly silent about these happening until right before this election!

Maybe Rose Adams doesn’t understand why Brooklyn needs to hear the whole story, but we do!

The situation at Angel Guardian Home happened because politicians realized people in that corner of the neighborhood are busy working and don’t have the time to check on who is in the developer’s pocket.
