Another Burglary in Bay Ridge. Crime is Up
Today, the Brooklyn Paper told us about a burglary that happened on June 5th.
WE DID NOT HEAR ABOUT THIS ONE!
This burglary happened at a home on 83rd Street and 3rd Avenue.
Three men entered the home through an unlocked window and identified themselves as police. (Lock your windows Bay Ridge!)
The two male residents were assaulted with a flashlight. One man was 36 yrs old and the other was 83 yrs old. (How awful!)
The article told us that the thieves stole narcotics. (The article doesn’t explain what type of narcotics were taken.)
WHEN IT IS.
The incident described in the paper was burglary.
Yet, the editor of the paper, Meaghan McGoldrick wanted to tell residents that the statistics for felony assaults and robberies are down BEFORE she told you that the statistics for burglaries are up!

In April 2020, burglaries happened more than double the number of times than last year.
Bay Ridge had 38 burglaries (compared to 15 at that time in 2019). Even if you weren’t good in math, you could see that is more than double!

In June, Meaghan McGoldrick forgot to tell us about City Council’s budget talk to defund the police in June. How strange that she would leave that out! For Bay Ridge, Councilman Justin Brannan thought that language was acceptable in City Council. (See here) Brannan could have spoken up and changed the language in City Council, but he played politics on this!
This month, Sammy Hamden, a new business owner on 86th Street in Bay Ridge was robbed and shot at. When local politicians and newspapers failed to mention the incident, he went to the news to let us know. (See here)
Why didn’t Meaghan McGoldrick tell the remarkable story about how the 68th Precinct police caught Sammy’s shooter?
Residents in Dyker Heights are wondering why political leaders won’t tell them that the FBI is doing drug raids in their community. Captain Tolson confirmed that the FBI did a drug raid and six people were arrested from a Dyker Heights home. (See here). Not one politician mentioned the FBI raid, even though many people asked them about it on social media.
Senator Andrew Gounardes was silent when other politicians spoke about defunding the police. Senator Gounardes doesn’t want to talk about crime in the community because then he would need to do something about it!
Hugs,
marlene
