Gounardes Did Not Speak Against Developers

Today Industry City withdrew their request for rezoning. That is a win for that area!  See story here

Not one  elected representative from Bay Ridge or Dyker Heights spoke against the developers.

Why didn’t Andrew Gounardes speak out with these state representatives?

Brooklyn representatives from other areas were able to stand up.   All these representatives said no to Industry City:

Sunset Park is adjacent to Bay Ridge – our businesses here would have been affected by any further development there.  Yet, I didn’t see the 5th Avenue BID or any politician or business owner talk about the rezoning.

Some of our electeds think it is okay to accept money from developers. See here:

In August, the landmarking meeting for Angel Guardian Home should have had Senator Gounardes and Assemblyman Abbate speaking for the community. Instead, Andrew Gounardes and Abbate deferred to Councilman Justin Brannan.

Brannan is not the Councilman for 64th Street and 11th Avenue. Carlos Menchaca is.

Andrew Gounardes was the head of the Bay Ridge Historical Society, so we don’t understand why he would have deferred to anyone. Usually people who are a part of historical society love to tell the story of a building. Further, Gounardes had given a workshop on landmarking, so there would no reason for him to defer.

Both Gounardes and Brannan accepted money the developer.

We voted for both of these men two and three years ago. It is very disappointing to be represented by people with completely different views.
