Councilman Brannan Bought Another Bus. Why Are the Seniors Using the Train?
Councilman Brannan used our tax money to purchase a second bus for the seniors to take trips. Why aren’t they using it? See the Accessibility Issue on the bottom of this flyer. This is a great trip, but using the train isn’t possible for some seniors.

We pay a lot of property taxes in Bay Ridge residents, so someone better be using those buses!
A concerned Bay Ridge resident named Debbie has stayed on top of this. She called and spoke with Mayor de Blasio recently while he was on a show. Mayor de Blasio said he wanted the seniors to go on their trips and put her in touch with someone from his office. That person should be doing their job and making sure this happens.
Both Bay Ridge Senior Center and Bay Ridge Connects are funded by the Dept of Aging. So why is there even an issue about a bus for seniors? Some seniors have issues with mobility and won’t be able to sign up for the trip because they can’t use the subway easily. Update: Now some Bay Ridge Connects trips are using the bus (some are subway).
Maybe vouchers for Harbor Car Service or Uber need to be issued rather than relying on the Senior Center officials to get this done.
The issue with the bus for seniors to go on trips has been going on for too long – it shouldn’t be though.
Whose denying the seniors access to the new bus? Let’s fix this now!
Hugs,
marlene

This is NOT true. The buses are for the Bay Ridge Senior Center (and BOTH) are being used. Bay Ridge Connects is trying to reach a different demographic. It is for the “younger” seniors, not everyone who is over 60 uses a walker or has difficulty in travelling. These are two separate entities and should not be lumped together. The concerned citizen does not have the “facts”. She is also not a member of the Bay Ridge Senior Center and does not know, first hand, what goes on there.
