Family’s Petition for Community Garden

If you live in Bay Ridge, you know the mural above. It was painted in 2014 (see here)
Donna Blanchard and her four year-old daughter, Michele Blanchard were killed in a hit-and-run on the corner of 92nd Street and Fort Hamilton Parkway on June 7, 1994. (See here)

The granddaughter of Donna Blanchard has a petition seeking to put a remembrance garden at that location. The parking lot is owned by someone who lives in Europe, but is probably making good money from the rent.
You may not know Blanchard, but this is also the mother of Michael McLeer ( owner of The Brooklyn Firefly, Brooklyn Made Tattoo or if you are old skool, The Lordz of Brooklyn).
The family gathers at the site each June and hope to see a Donna and Michele Blanchard Community Garden there.
Click here to see and sign the petition for a community garden at 9055 Fort Hamilton Parkway.
It looks like the property changed hands in 2018 and someone is making plans for it – see here.
While I don’t think the city will be able to acquire that lot, I do think it is possible to put a bench and two trees in that area in honor of Donna and Michele Blanchard. We would like to see something done for this family.
Hugs,
marlene
