Dear Kerri McCarthy – Republican District Leader in Bay Ridge
I don’t know Kerri or any way to contact her, but here’s what I would say to her if I did.
Kerri, while you may not know me, I am going to ask you to step back from your position as district leader.
Kerri, your last picks for our area were disastrous! You know some Republicans voted against Marty – not because they support Andrew, but they were tired of Marty looking out for Marty. Enough is enough – time has moved on and Marty’s moved on too. Everyone here knew Dan Donovan wasn’t interested in being a representative. Donovan was bothered that he had to run town hall meetings in Bay Ridge.
Kerri, you tapped Steve Saperstein to run for the Assembly seat. You didn’t remove your endorsement when he told everyone at Xaverian that he accepted money from a developer. (More info) People were surprised you had supported him. I thought it was strange that you used social media to talk about Dr. Frontus when you knew Republicans were supporting Frontus. When residents found out about Dr. Frontus’ background and saw Dr. Frontus was the real deal, people wanted to vote for her. Assemblywoman Frontus is doing a great job as she brought 100K to the Bay Ridge Senior Center and has co-sponsored a bill for Senator Gounardes for the Verrazzano Bridge in just a few months. For many of us in Bay Ridge, we care about our neighbors and our community.
Kerri – now you are running to be a leader with John Quaglione. Quaglione was aided by a SuperPac of Realtors (see here). The Quagliones may be okay with that, but Bay Ridge doesn’t need a politician who is owned. We saw what happened to Coney Island because Democratic leaders were owned by super pacs. We don’t need that over development here in Bay Ridge. Treyger is still in office and you don’t see him fighting hard against development – why? See here
Kerri, you didn’t support Quaglione when he ran in a primary against other Republicans, so why would you now have him as your district running mate? John Quaglione also supported Saperstein, even after Saperstein admitted to accepting money from a developer. We don’t need a district leader who is going to look away when developers are throwing money at politicians. When I showed Republicans that Quaglione had received help from a SUPERPAC, they were surprised. BUT YOU KNEW HE DID.
Kerri, Nicole Malliotakis promised residents a three-part property tax bill last Fall. That bill hasn’t been seen and it’s mid-April. Even Socialists pointed this out in the newspaper last week. We can’t keep tapping the same people who aren’t able to get things done for Bay Ridge. Nicole isn’t doing anything to help the area and just takes pictures at parades or events here. Malliotakis doesn’t even have an office here. If her funds are low, she would rent a desk somewhere and make herself accessible at certain days/times. Malliotakis’ website still says Golden’s closed office address.
The single party that represents most of this district is happening because you are the District Leader (we are fortunate that the current leaders are all very good people). Corruption happens where there isn’t a lot of diversity.
This blog is read by Republicans – not because I am a good Republican, but because we share our love of Bay Ridge and our dislike for high property taxes. Many just want better, more family-oriented politicians for the area.
The Republican Party needs a new district leader who can bring new blood to the party. This neighborhood isn’t going back to Marty. How did Marty Golden work on Fifth Avenue and not pass a bill to help the merchants in our area? Stores closed in front of his face and he didn’t do a thing! What you see on the Avenue is happening all over, but Golden the ability as lawmaker to help the merchants in our area. Yet, Golden was the Senator who sponsored the bill in the Senate to give developers at this building in Manhattan tax breaks and not small business owners. (See here) Small business owners didn’t have the money to play, so they didn’t get anything.(Info here and here)
One of the saddest things we saw was Golden not supporting people who had been sexually abused as children. (See here) The new senator came in and supported that bill.(See here) How could ANY district leader even thinking about supporting someone who was against the Child’s Victim Act? (See here)
I appreciate the comments left on the post. If Kerri McCarthy writes to me, I will publish her comments. There is more information about this race in Kadia Goba’s article here.
4/20 – Replies left here let us know that either Kerri or someone on her team has removed the comments about Dr. Frontus. So yes, the eagle has landed.
Hugs,
marlene
