Malliotakis Takes Credit for Steve Matteo’s Work
When Mayor de Blasio announced the property tax commission at the end of May, City Councilman Steven Matteo objected because a Staten Island resident was not on the commission. Yesterday one was added to the commission. It wasn’t the one Matteo recommended, but Matteo was satisfied with the appointment.
Then Nicole Malliotakis took credit for it. Malliotakis is having a rally today – three weeks after a Staten Islander wasn’t added to the commission. She didn’t rally that weekend or the next one. Update: You can see today’s date on this article, so you can tell Nicole Malliotakis is rallying AFTER a Staten Island resident was added to the commission (meaning: Mayor de Blasio heard Matteo and put a Staten Islander on the commission)
If you have followed me for awhile, you will know I know who my property tax politicians. Councilman Joe Borelli, Matteo and Jim Oddo presented a tax plan months ago. For a long time we have seen Malliotakis issue press releases and do nothing. Malliotakis ran for Mayor in the Fall. She was aware of the property tax issued and did nothing about it this year.
Nicole Malliotakis is a lawmaker and failed to pass a law to alleviate the property tax for home owners or business owners in Brooklyn and Staten Island. We all know property tax is tied to the state and not just the city. Nicole and Marty Golden rallied about online sales paying tax, but did nothing for this community.
Malliotakis is angry she lost the mayoral race to deBlasio – she could have passed a bill and beat him at his own game. That would have taken work. Malliotakis likes to sit on social media critiquing the Mayor, but no one is listening to her. (Matteo tweeted about tax exemptions – if you want to know what’s going on in Staten Island – follow him) If she was going to have a real rally, there would be signs up all over the place – there are none in Brooklyn.
Can you imagine having to work with Malliotakis when she is busy taking credit for other people’s work? I have seen this happen before see here.
Update: The politicians who are running for office + Sal Albanese spoke at the rally. It was political grandstanding as usual. Half of those people know the rally was a farce and half don’t know what’s going on so they thought it was real. How do we know it was nonsense? Dan Donovan spoke about property taxes – he never has before. Also City Councilmen Borelli and Matteo and Jim Oddo were not present. Nicole didn’t even mention Matteo. Nicole had a realtor speak at the rally because sellers are buying homes with lower property taxes (strangely the realtor spoke before the home owners).
Mike Grimm was given a chance to speak – Grimm wouldn’t have been asked to speak if his voice didn’t matter to Staten Island. He was announced and handed the microphone at the beginning of the rally. At the end of the rally, Fran Vella-Marrone, president of the Dyker Heights Civic Association spoke about the high cost of property taxes in Dyker Heights (she was the only Brooklyn speaker).
