The Kings County District Attorney’s Office, located in the Metrotech area of Brooklyn, New York, has an exciting opportunity to work in the Domestic Violence Bureau as a Receptionist.The Domestic Violence Bureau investigates and prosecutes physical assaults and other abusive behavior committed by a spouse, partner or family member. The bureau also provides counseling services and relocation programs for victims of domestic violence.
Under general supervision, with latitude for independent initiative and judgment, the Receptionist provides general office support with a variety of clerical activities and related tasks.
The Receptionist will be responsible for answering incoming calls, directing calls to appropriate associates, mail distribution, flow of correspondence, as well as additional clerical duties.
Greet all visitors to the Domestic Violence Bureau in a courteous manner.
Confirm all visitor and caller identities.
Ascertain the nature of each visitor’s case or complaint and promptly notify assigned ADA counselor and/or paralegal.
Maintain daily records of all visitors and witnesses in the DV reception database. Answer all telephone calls and independently and promptly screen.
Assist and/or refer callers to the appropriate ADA, counselor and/or paralegal.
Screen and appropriately distribute mail on the date of receipt and make daily pick-up and delivery of mail and other materials within the KCDA Office.
Review case files to determine victim contact information and, when necessary, make telephone contact with the victim to arrange in-person interviews.
Prepare come-see-me letters and ensure that necessary and appropriate follow-up actions are taken.
Perform other related clerical and receptionist duties as assigned by supervisor/management.
Minimum Qual Requirements
1. There are no formal education or experience requirements for this position. However, the ability to understand and carry out simple instructions is required.
2. Candidates must be able to understand and be understood in English.
