National School WalkOut Day in Bay Ridge
Fort Hamilton High School
Students nationwide walked out of their schools at 10:00 to remember those who died in the school shooting in Florida last month and send a message to the NRA. It won’t be long before they are voting and running for office to get things done because enough is enough.
For the students, it was a successful day – not because they walked out but because they were united on this. 1300 Kids are killed every year by guns (CDC stat). I loved Ross Barkan’s description of the Fort Hamilton Walkout – seen here and here. I love that community leaders met the students with a silent vigil to show support.
Did it change anything with the politicians? No, but we knew that already.
