It’s back to school and time to get a backpack. Here are some stores in Bay Ridge and nearby in Brooklyn which sell strong backpacks and lunch bags:
- TJ Maxx – school bags and lunch bags 86th Street and 5th Avenue
- Century21 – a huge selection of bags – 86th Street and 5th Avenue
- Staples – mostly black bags – 93rd Street and 4th Avenue
- Modells – backpacks and sports bags –86th Street and 5th Avenue (also in the Cesear’s Bay shopping center with Kohls and Toys R Us)
- Legends has a lot of backpacks on 5th Avenue and 83rd Street
- Panda Sports– pricey but very nice bags 92nd Street and 5th Avenue
- Children’s Place on 86th Street between 4th and 5th Avenue had a nice selection of bags in August.
- Kohls has Jansport bags – look in the Juniors Department for cute bags for preteens. Also have Adidas and Nike bags for around $50 (Cesear’s Bay Shopping Center)
- Toys R Us – they also have cute lunch bags here (Cesear’s Bay Shopping Center)
- Target – Gateway Mall Exit 15 on the Belt Parkway Erskine, also Brooklyn Atlantic Terminal Mall and Staten Island Mall – also has lunch bags

- Pottery Barn Kids – can be personalized with name or initials. Matching lunchbag as well.
- LL Bean – strong bags – used for years. Can be monogrammed.
- Lands End Backpacks – strong bags
- Skiphop for pre-k and kindergarten bags
- Gymboree for Little Kids bags
- Posylane for the really cute little girls schoolbags and lunch bags
- Crocodile Creek has backpacks for little girls and boys – lunch bags too
