Politics and a Season for Everything
I watched Obama and McCain tonight. McCain knows the end is near. He’s a nice man, but his season has passed. We need change.
In NYC, we have the same situation, we have some politicians who just haven’t realized that their season has ended. Mayor Bloomberg, a financial watchdog failed NYC as Wall Street has crumbled and yet, he wants to stay to bring it back. Mayor Bloomberg had his turn and it’s time for him to move on. Change is good Mike. It’s good for you and it will be good for NYC. We need new ideas and new people carrying out those ideas. Bloomberg has implied that he is the only one who can do this job. If NYC didn’t allow Rudy to stay after 9/11, why would we make the exception for any politician now? Bloomberg has so many experts working for him, I find it hard to believe that none of them were able to forecast our current financial conditions.
Then there’s Marty Markowitz. There’s definitely some controversy about Brooklyn Borough President’s use of city funds. There is a large questionable amount that has been given to Markowitz’s not-for-profit, but I can’t figure out why the Borough President of any borough would be allowed to have a separate non-for-profit. If the Borough President wanted to have a concert, he would just throw a concert. So now the Brooklyn Borough President is upset that people (especially the media) are questioning him. Markowitz Put Your Money where Your Mouth is! You have a website – you can easily post your expenses. This isn’t the first time a finger has been pointed at Markowitz . Many people question his connection with Ratner and lack of support for the Brooklynites who lived in the homes in Downtown Brooklyn. What has their quality of life been like for the last few years as they had to fight the city for their home? The economy is dead and these projects haven’t taken off as Markowitz said they would.
I’m thankful for term limits. I think when Marty started in office, he had good motives. Then he worked the system and the system worked him. These politicians who are trying to extend their term limits are like the middle age woman wearing a mini skirt. Everyone knows what’s needed, but no one wants to hurt anyone’s feelings and tell the person their season has passed. Hopefully, Mayor Bloomberg and Borough President Markowitz will have a kind best friend that tells them gently to move on.
Hugs,
marlene

I couldn’t agree more! Term limits are there for a reason! And Bloomberg has definitely outlived his usefulness. It’s like trying to change the rules when you’re in the middle of the game. It’s ridiculous!

I’m surprised at you views my dear Queen. Your website proclaims that you will serve the Lord. So do I, or at least I try. Obama is prochoice and by far the most liberal Senator. How will he lead on ethical issues near and dear to the hearts of many Christians. He will be prochoice and appoint justices that are the same. He will be pro-liberal, pro-gay, etc…. Is this the kind of change you want?
As for term-limits, I think limiting local officials to just 2 terms is ridiculous. Sooner or later we will run out of qualified leaders. I support term limits to 3 terms. Bloomberg is not at fault for the current financial condition. He was elected to run a city not the corporations of that city. Of course, you can blame Congress, that has yet to pass an energy bill, and the Treasury Dept.

Hey Andrew!
Serving the Lord to me, means that I WILL follow the Lord’s word and l will love everyone. It does not mean that I will pass judgment on other people. That’s the Lord’s job. I try to live my life the best I can with His guidance.
I was prolife for many years. Yet, God sent me someone who brought a bit of light onto a particular situation. You can read about it here if you are interested. https://queenoftheclick.com/?p=225 I doubt you are because I get the feeling you are just a blog troll.
I think anyone who has something to say about people who are gay, has too much time on their hands. Why care about who someone loves? I don’t think anyone chooses to be gay.No one would deliberately make themselves an outcast to society and face so much ridicule as a fad. God loves gay people. God loved Mary Magdalene and she was a prostitute. In the Bible, Luke wrote that Jesus cast seven demons out of Mary Magdalene. Isn’t this former prostitute, Mary Magdalene now a saint in the Catholic Church? So for me to judge the actions of gay individuals against the Bible is wrong. That is for God to do. Our job is to love. Even if you believe that practicing gay acts is against the Bible, you must also recognize that God has always loved sinners, right?
Andrew, I also stand firm for stem cell research. My brother died at age 7 from a rare cancer and I have seen so many other children die from diseases. I believe that the Lord has given us necessary medical knowledge to help us. I know certain religions have spoken against the evils of stem cell research, but those religions have also declared Darwin theory of evolution hypocrisy and then changed their minds about it years later.
You put forth the idea that we will run out of qualified leaders. LOL! Are you drinking tonight? In NYC, that is just ridiculous to consider. There are so many women and men who are qualified to take the job of mayor. Bloomberg knows he had his turn and now it’s time for others to step up. He wants to stay because he SAID (not me) that he can help the city and Wall Street. As far as I am concerned, Bloomberg’s advisors must have warned him about the current situation long ago. It doesn’t take a mental giant to realize that there must have been fiancial advisors who were aware of this situation.
Average Joe, you don’t have a blog. As such an opinated writer, you must blog somewhere? :)
Thanks for writing and allowing me to clarify.

Hi Queen, Well, I must say you sound like a very nice person that has put quite a bit of thought in things. However, the Bible is crystal clear on abortion and homosexuality. I’m not sure what your thoughts are about the Bible, but I choose my decisions (and votes) based on Biblical ethics, not just what feels good or what sister Mary said. I never suggested that we should demonize gay people and discriminate against them. You are right, we are to love. I do not consider myself a troll, actually I always thought of trolls as evil mythical beings, and since I am a child of God, that won’t carry well…

Joe,
Yep I’m an ok person – a sinner, but mostly decent.
God will forgive me if I am wrong. He knows we are human. I’ve prayed over these topics for a long time and felt that God understands gays and those who feel they need to have an abortion.
I often wonder what I would think if I had a child who was gay. Sure, I would have mixed feelings at first, but ultimately, I would love them. If I had a gay child, I would want them to find happiness with someone and be free to marry them and have the benefits of marriage.
Ok so child of God – where’s your blog? I know you have one.

QUEEN! Free to Marry? What version of the Bible do you read? I do have a blog, it’s a local Bay Ridge preservation/local issues blog, but I’ll let you figure me out….

Average Joe, If you had children who happen to be gay, wouldn’t you want them to find love? I don’t know why people are so concerned with what other people believe, who they love or what they do. As I see it, I have plenty enough to manage in my own life to care who any Brooklynite is having a relationship with.
You aren’t Left in Brooklyn are you?
