Kayla Santosuosso Joined The Progressive Caucus That Justin Brannan Left in NYC Council

In February 2023, Justin Brannan and other NYC Council members left the Progressive caucus because the Progressive Caucus added a new statement of principles: to “do everything we can to reduce the size and scope of the NYPD and the Department of Correction.” Brannan faced a challenger for the council seat in 2023, so he couldn’t stay in the “defunding the police group.” Info:

Currently, the Progressive Caucus’ principles do not have that listeas a principle, but some of their existing members have been very vocal about that.
