May 22, 2020BMW Impounded in Bay Ridge
![]()
The 68th Precinct shared that they impounded this blue BMW today. Good work!
This vehicle has a plate that had many talking. People wanted to know if it was owned by a police officer.
The NYPD Highway police confirmed that the vehicle was not.
Then someone on Twitter checked the tickets that a person has on their car (yeah that’s publically available now).

May 22, 2020Alicia Degener’s New Art in Bay Ridge
Journalist, Jessica Parks featured Bay Ridge artist, Alicia Degener in The Brooklyn Paper.
Alicia’s painting of the Statue of Liberty wearing a mask is on the window of of Bubbles and Suds Laundromat on 5th Avenue. See Alicia’s other art here.
I also loved seeing Alicia in the striped top (above). The picture captures her radiant soul!

I’ve run into Degener a few times at street sales. Each time, I’ve purchased a set of her coasters because they are of scenes in Bay Ridge and very whimsical. You pair them with a bottle of wine and they make a great gift. She sells them online here.
Sometimes former Brooklyn residents come to see me and love he coasters, so I give them to them because I know I can get another set.

May 22, 2020RIP Kenny Hamilton
Three days ago, Kenny Hamilton announced that his father died from Covid-19 at at a nursing home last week. He hadn’t seen his father in several months.
On social media, Kenny shared that he wasn’t feeling well. We heard he went to the hospital and he was released. Today, we found out that Kenny had passed away. Kenny was 54 years old.
Ronnie wrote this about Kenny: “Kenny Hamilton will always be remembered!!! He was more than a Great Photographer – he was a Great Student of Music and a Great Drummer and a Very Funny Guy and he was My Friend!!! He lived around the corner from me and we shared our Love of all music – Rock/Metal etc. I have so many memories of Kenny and I spoke to him before he sadly passed away!!! I AM DEVASTATED!!!! The World has lost such an incredibly unique individual as there were none like him!!! If you were lucky enough to know him – than you know what I mean!!!
I can not explain how much he loved music and life and all things included!!! He has a Beautiful Mother and Family which I was Lucky to also know!!! I mean what Mom would let their child play on a full drum kit in the living room!!! I will always miss him and I loved all the time that we spent together!!! Bay Ridge Brooklyn will not be the same!!! I hope all local bands stop their set when they are playing and raise a glass to a truly Great Individual – Kenny Hamilton! RIP – My Brother!!! I Will Always Miss You!!! Bless You Kenny – Rock Forever in Heaven!!!

Many of us knew Kenny through his photography. He shared his work through Bay Ridge Facebook groups. Kenny was always trying to get that rare shot or interesting angle on Shore Road or near the Staircase. He photographed parks, sunsets, wildlife, the bridge and beautiful scenes. See his photos here and here.
This gorgeous picture was created by Kenny Hamilton:

On March 17th, Kenny drove through Bay Ridge and shared this video to show how quiet it was during the pandemic.
Kenny loved Bay Ridge and his pictures showed it. He would share pictures with different filters and ask people what they thought. Kenny wanted people to enjoy his photos and share different places throughout the neighborhood. Everyone loved his beautiful photos.
RIP Kenny.

May 21, 2020Verrazzano Jumper Stopped Tonight
We could see the familiar scene of lights of red emergency lights on bridge. This time the news isn’t so dreadful.
Before 11:00 pm tonight, a man got out of his car on the Verrazzano Bridge. The emergency response team were able to get to him in time and he didn’t jump.
The Citizen App only had a little information.
One day, I hope that guy is poking around the web ans sees these words. God’s got bigger plans for you man – you can’t just cut out. Is. 41:10
It’s no mistake that he is alive.

May 21, 2020Rose Spoke Up for the National Guard
There is something wrong in this country if we aren’t able to do the right thing for people who serve in the military.
Congressman Max Rose spoke out for the National Guard because the National Guard’s deployment will be cut short of one day when they would become eligible for federal benefits. See here
That awful! How do we allow Americans who have shown their loyalty to this country to be treated this way?

May 20, 2020Moroccan House Association Online Meeting with Pols
![]()
The Moroccan American House Association at 307 Bay Ridge Avenue held an online meeting the politicians. Hamza Karb was the moderator.
![]()
Interestingly, the format for their group was not a webinar, as most of virtual meetings for Bay Ridge have been. It was an actual live town hall in that the politicians took questions and the audience members could talk.
![]()
Although the flyer said it was being held on one Facebook page, it was on a totally different page. When the location changed, the pols didn’t post a link to the new location, which was strange.
The virtual meeting provided very general information. If you were out of state for the past month, the information might be useful, but not for Brooklynites who have heard all this general info.
![]()
At first, I was disappointed by Max Rose, but then the new father announced his cell phone number. He said that if anyone wasn’t receiving help from his staff, to contact him.
![]()
Residents in the area asked very interesting questions in the chat, but most went unanswered.
![]()
Mildly amusing was watching Andrew Gounardes fight with his name on the screen instead of moving to his left.
![]()
![]()
At one point, Senator Gounardes was texting while on the screen. You would think someone would tell him to move over, but no one did.
![]()
This group of people do not know that both Andrew Gounardes and Justin Brannan accepted money from a developer in our area. (See here) They should know this before voting.
Brannan gave the traditional politician banter – nothing new.
![]()
When Brannan wasn’t speaking, he was busy texting. I guess he thought no one could see him. It’s so weird to see politicians do this. If you commit to being at a meeting, be present for it.
