Bay Ridge Racetrack is Open

Last night and this morning, the Bay Ridge Racetrack was open.

It must be a super finale race as it’s morning and the cars are still zipping around loudly.

Councilman Brannan wants people to call it in.

Brannan knows people can’t call it in to 911 because they have no idea where the sound is coming from.

This is just a politician’s way of passing the problem and acting “like he is doing something.”

Why aren’t the NCO’s from every district in their cars in their district? If they were, they would hear everything people have been reporting for weeks. We don’t need police officers sitting in the precinct responding to e-mail.  This neighborhood doesn’t need e-mail police, we need active officers on our streets.

Other people are taking over the streets while there are no police.

Bagel Story Was Broken Into Last Night

Bagel Story at  8501 3rd Avenue had it’s window broken and the register was robbed.

Abdul shared that they also took some equipment.    : (

Some politicians will parrot the mayor and tell us “Crime is down.”

We all know break-ins and robberies are up in our area.

Hopefully, there will be some good camera footage in the area and they will be able to catch the jerk.

It’s awful someone did this as the end of Ramaden, while people were celebrating Eid.

Memorial Day Motorcade in Bay Ridge on 5/25

Every year, Bay Ridge has a Memorial Day Parade, but this year it was cancelled due to the pandemic.

Thank you to our neighbors who kept the tradition of this community going, even during the pandemic!

There will be a Memorial Day motorcade in Bay Ridge on Monday, May 25, 2020 instead.

See more videos here.

If you want to be part of it, line up at 10:30 AM on 86th & Street between Colonial Road and Ridge Boulevard. The car parade begins at 11:00 am.

The cars will turn right on 3rd Avenue and head towards the bridge.

They they will turn left on 91st Street.

Then they will travel on 92nd Street and make a right on Seventh Avenue at Poly Place.

All the cars are driving into the VA, going around the back and exiting.

A wreath laying ceremony will take place near the Brooklyn VA hospital.

Brooklyn Brew Cafe at 310- 79th Street has the best coffee in Bay Ridge.

They are giving  a FREE cup of drip coffee to all retired, active, and reserve members of the Armed forces to thank them for their service.

Happy Memorial Day Bay Ridge!  We are lucky to have so many brave Americans, who have protected and fought for our freedom.

Politicians Need to Heed to Their Own Advice

It’s great that politicians want to spread the word about wearing masks and social distancing. Then they share prom-style line-up pictures where it’s clear they don’t understand what social distancing is. Seen here

People in our community understand the new norm is for small groups of people to form socially distant circles. No one told them to do this – they are doing it for their families.

At the beginning of April, Brannan had the same problem (see here), but it’s the end of May now and he should understand social distancing!

Can politicians do their work without taking a picture?  Of course!

We shouldn’t see politicians in selfies with anyone they aren’t quarantined with until this pandemic is over.  We want NY to open and stay open….stop the prom-picture-lineups.

Cars Honking in Bay Ridge for Eid

If you hear a lot of cars honking, it’s for the celebration of Eid!

Ramadan is over and Bay Ridge residents were celebrating the way people celebrate during a pandemic.

Parades of cars fill the Avenue and everyone honks – it’s a pandemic party.

We will hear a lot of  horn honking for graduations in June. Equate horn honking as people celebrating for awhile  :)

Happy Eid!

Bay Ridge Calls for 3rd Avenue Outdoor Eating

Bay Ridge residents are talking all over social media.

They want 3rd Avenue closed to traffic on Friday and Saturday night.

They want restaurants to be able to have outdoor seating that will socially distanced on the street.

This isn’t a Summer Stroll. No vendors.

This is about our community supporting our businesses. And all businesses who are able to provide a socially distant al fresco dining experience.

This isn’t about people strolling up to tables – they can do reservations for the outdoor seating.  (Restaurant owners you can use Google Forms and call everyone you can fit for the evening)

Everyone will wear a mask.

Let’s face it – a lot of people could use a night out and our businesses need the money now. (We won’t be joining you because Lee is a cancer survivor and I don’t let him go anywhere).

Stores that are able to socially distance should stay open late and sell items as well……businesses please get a stock of Lysol for us.  You don’t have to be a business that normally sells that – just sell it now.

Colonial Road – Time to Dance in the Street!

Colonial Road between 83rd and 86th street  was chosen as an Open Street for NYC.  Every day from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, you can go there and dance in the street.

NYC has closed some streets so people can use them for walking and riding while appropriately social distancing from other people. See here

Now don’t get up on your high horse and tell people they can’t move or park their cars on these street – they can still park.

It’s all about sharing.

If you live on these blocks….I’m sorry. I know you are used to your quiet street. Hopefully it will just be used by some nice people. Giving small children a place to ride their bikes and scooters…and socially distance is a nice thing. This is temporary, just until we get through the coronavirus.

You may be thinking: Bay Ridge has a lot of open space just a few blocks away on Shore Road….and you are right. But every community is getting some Open Space for people to enjoy, be free and socially distance themselves.

This information was announced on the news.

Senator Gounardes and Councilman Brannan had an virtual chat with a Brooklyn group this week and didn’t mention this. Their virtual meetings are useless.  *These leaders had a responsibilty to let the residents on these streets know what was going to happen – they shouldn’t have to hear it on the news!
