Birthday Party at Fairytale Island in Bay Ridge
Updated: Our family is planning another party here in 2021!

.

Fairytale Island opened in 2017 and kids love it.
The two hour private birthday party package cost $785 – not including the tax and service charge. A private birthday party means no one else will be in the play area while you and your party are there. This birthday package is for 15 kids and the birthday child = 16 children all together.

Besides the cool playroom area, there are two more rooms in the back. There is a pretend store in one room and the other is a party room. If you don’t mind other children playing while you are there, you can have a non-private party for $385 there. This is for 10 kids and the birthday child.
Each child will receive an organic juice, a cupcake and a kid’s meal such as popcorn chicken and french fries.
They ask that children wear socks inside play area (socks with rubber pads would be good because parts of their floor are slippery).

92nd Convenience Store opened on 92nd Street, of course! See here. Glad to see another new business in the neighborhood!
This is the perfect store for that location! It was a small shop (it was a spawn shop of Darn Donuts). This store is off 5th and 92nd Street. There is a school nearby, so it’s a great place for parents to stop in and get a coffee or children to stop an get candy or pens. Everyone needs a convenience store.
Good luck to the new owners!!

September 8, 2020Murder Suspect Arrested by the 68th Precinct
The 68th Precinct have arrested the man they believe murdered Mike Skully yesterday morning. Our community thanks Captain Tolson and the officers at the 68th Precinct for moving so fast!
George Vayos:
Earlier today, the NY Post wrote that the police had picked up the 52-year old suspect. The police were able to see video footage of the shooting and the suspect walking back to his home. See story here.
Bay Ridge mourns the loss of a good neighbor and friend. People continue to mention how Mike looked out for others. If you are wondering if this is the same Mike Skully from OLPH or Sunset Park – it is – 60th Street.
Many animal-lovers in the neighborhood wondered if Mike’s dogs were okay. The Post story states that Mike put the dogs inside the house before the shooting happened.
Many people are helping to get the dogs to new homes:

September 7, 2020Michael Skully was Killed This Morning
Update 9/10/20:
This is the saddest and most tragic news. See story here and here
Michael Skully went out to walk his dog on 74th Street and 7th Avenue at 6:50 am this morning. A later story in The Post reveals that Mike put his dogs inside the home before he was shot.
In the Post newspaper, cops said Mike knew the assailant and this was over money (I’m don’t think this is true because today, Tuesday, they revealed that Mike walked across the street from the man. If he knew him why would he walk across the street from him – see here). (The original NY Post article is here: See here)
The Daily News wrote: “Cops said Scully had an argument with his killer after leaving his home to walk his dog. His adversary whipped out a gun, shot Scully and ran off.” (Quote from the Daily News article) Update: See here
He was shot in his head and shoulders on the corner. Mike made it back to his home, 911 was called and he was taken to NYU Langone (Lutheran) hospital. Mike passed away at the hospital.
Police are searching for the shooter. There are cameras all around that area and neighbors of the home said that the NYPD asked them for their footage.
![]()
The news said that the shooter was a heavyset white man. The Citizen App stated: “Police report that the suspect is described as a white man wearing blue sweatpants, a dark baseball cap, and a black mask, carrying a black firearm, and last seen running northbound on 7th Avenue.” See here
Mike walked his dog each morning around the same time. He has five dogs – three were named after the Three Stooges. Neighbors were worried about the dog that he was walking.
Michael was only 62 years old. His neighbors told the news that Michael was loved by the people on his block. People remembered Michael as being a generous man, who loved salsa dancing and Brooklyn. His friend retold the story of being promised. Another person remembered Mike for bringing his dogs to church (Source)
RIP Mike.
Prayers for Michael’s family, friends and neighbors.

September 6, 2020NYS Democrats Want to Speak in Our Community
![]()
People who live in Bay Ridge have the right to speak into our community.
Yet, politicians think that their friends and political groups, who don’t live here, have the right to speak to us AND send us mail.
They don’t.
On Friday, we received several flyers in the mail from The New York State Democratic Committee. They sent out negative mailings against Gounardes’ opponent. Andrew Gounardes did such a terrible job as a representative, that they had nothing to hail him for, so they went negative and are fear-mongering.
Who is in charge of the NYS Democratic Committee? Jay Jacobs, a man in Nassau County who runs a camp is speaking into our community! Jay doesn’t even live in Brooklyn, but wants to tell us who we should vote for. See here
Former NYC Speaker, Christine Quinn is the executive committee chairperson of the NYS Democratic Committee. Andrew Gounardes thinks Christine Quinn has a right to speak into our neighborhood. (Christine Quinn ran for mayor against Bill de Blasio and came in third place). In 2008, Christine Quinn supported politicians serving three terms (so she remain in City Council and Bloomberg could run for mayor for a 3rd term). Source
The NYS Democratic told us on their Wikipedia Page that they are not your standard Democrats, like Vinnie Gentile or Max Rose. (See here) On their page, they list social liberalism and social democracy as their ideology. Believe people the first time they tell you who they are!
Social liberalism is quite different from classic liberalism. (If a socialist was reading these words, they would be cheering right now).
![]()
Andrew Gounardes used to speak out against fear-mongering. But now Gounardes can’t speak up for himself, so fear-mongering flyers being mailed to residents in his community are okay with him.
I waited until today to see if Andrew was going to be decent and speak out against the flyers containing the 1980’s information.
The NYS Democratic Committee wants to force a candidate on us. They want their yes man – Andrew Gounardes. They are happy that Gounardes doesn’t rock the boat and claps when other senators pass bills. They also don’t care that Gounardes was involved with loophole bills. (NYS Sexual Harrassment Law had to be corrected this year, Bail Reform Loophole and the Dyker Heights Ice Cream Man Loophole)
The NYS Democratic Committee doesn’t care that a man was released due to bail reform and sexually assaulted a Bay Ridge woman at the 95th Street train station in January (See here) Andrew Gournardes defended bail reform. See my tweet and his response. The article linked there explains when the man was released. The following month, politicians had to repeal bail reform – the same bill I complained to Andrew about. (See here) Marc Lamparello was a 38-year-old man, who was released from prison due to bail reform. Lamparello needed mental health help, but was released without it. He jumped from the Verrazzano Bridge in April 2020. (See here) His family left a comment on this blog – see here
I’m sure the NYS Democratic Committee loved that Andrew Gounardes got up and said NYS home owners should get a tax break. NYC home owners received property tax increases and Gounardes did nothing. See here:
The NYS Democratic Committee won’t tell you that Senator Gounardes took money from a developer. This information was revealed in this article at Kings County Politics and they provided the link to NYS Board of Election Disclosure Report – page 28.
The NYS Democrats thought they should tell us about what Vito Bruno did in the 1983 and 1989. In the 80’s, I was a student fighting with nuns to wear pants on school dress down days. A lot has changed over the decades!
The NYS Democratic Committee didn’t realize their flyer told Brooklyn that Vito Bruno hasn’t had any problems for three decades. In the 80’s, Vito was a young man running a business. From 1990-2020, the Democrats couldn’t find anything bad to use about Vito Bruno! That’s a good thing!
Remember two years ago, the Democratic Party here didn’t support Mathylde Frontus when she ran for office. Not one politician in this area stood up and said the Harvard graduate would make a great Assemblywoman. I researched her up and down and couldn’t figure out why. Councilman Justin Brannan did not speak up for Mathylde Frontus until AFTER Dr. Frontus won the primary. Kadia Goba reminded people about that (See here)
![]()
Another reporter told us about a back room deal that was exchanged between Brannand and Treyger for Andrew Gounardes and that left Frontus in the cold. (See Paragraph 5 in this paper) The community voted for Frontus because they knew she was the one.
I want the thank the NYS Democratic Committee for motivating me to reach out to Vito Bruno.
The NYS Democrats wanted us to know that there was drugs and violence at the nightclub Bruno managed in the 1980’s. Many bars and nightclubs have to deal with people who do drugs and are violent. In August 2018, we saw a bar owner in Bay Ridge try desperately to change the atmosphere of her bar (No Quarter Tavern) because it attracted a gang. The bar owner asked for help from the police, hired security and eventually had to close her place because of gang violence. (More information here) Why didn’t the elected politicians reach out to someone like Vito Bruno to get her help?
I don’t have enough information about Vito Bruno yet, but I’ll share it when I do. For this community, we need someone who will speak up for Bay Ridge because politics is pulling it the wrong way – at both ends. Long after the politicians are gone, we’ll still be here dealing with their mess.

September 6, 2020KTV Karaoke Bar Shut Down – 300 People Inside
![]()
Channel 1 News reported that The Legend KTV Karaoke Bar was shut down by the sheriff 2:00 am because the crowded bar had nearly 300 people inside! It is illegal for people to be inside in a restaurant/bar, but this place and all of these people must have thought no one was going to see them on 61st Street. Story here
Legend KTV 61st Street near Fort Hamilton is located at in Borough Park, Brooklyn. Six people were charged with violating liquor-law violations.
I get it, you want to sing karaoke and you want your life back to the way it was before the pandemic, but we aren’t there yet. And people doing things like this isn’t helping!
Also there was a child at the karaoke bar! Someone thought it was a good idea to bring their child to a karaoke bar during a pandemic when all bars and restaurants are closed across NYC. That person was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
In 2018, this bar had trouble and last year it had its liquor license revoked.

September 6, 2020Bay Ridge Couple Arrested at Ferry – Updated
Jake from Gothamist shared the story of an arrest at the ferry at Brooklyn Bridge Park in tweets. (Thanks for the info C!)
Major standoff on this ferry between a captain and a couple from Bay Ridge who refuse to wear mask. Cops have arrived. Couple on top deck. pic.twitter.com/G8KYhEEfmG
— Jake Offenhartz (@jangelooff) September 6, 2020
The couple didn’t want to wear a mask when they were asked by the ferry captain. The newspapers have stated that the couple claimed that both refused to wear a masks due to medical reasons. That would be understandable…..but then the story turned political. The NY Post revealed that the couple claimed they were being discriminated against because they are white. And Black Lives Matter was mentioned. Click here to see the article
You can also see the quote here. The language used is awful. The story is so awful Newsweek carried it. See here.
The police came and asked them to wear a mask. They refused.
The police asked them to get off the ferry and they refused.
The Gothamist article stated that the police gave them a final warning to leave the boat or to be arrested and they didn’t leave! See here
People called for the two mask-less travelers to get off the ferry because it wasn’t able to bring the people to Bay Ridge. About 90 people were aboard the ferry.
The police went to handcuff the man and he pulled away twice. The man’s wife was not happy, but she did not resist arrest. (The man, David, questioned in a meek voice, “You are going to arrest my wife too?”)
They’ve been handcuffed and removed from the boat. pic.twitter.com/jD9eO0cCnR
— Jake Offenhartz (@jangelooff) September 6, 2020
The people on the ferry cheer that the couple was removed and several yell out, “Thank you NYPD.”
All of this drama over politics or wearing a mask……………..C’monnn.
The NYPD does not want to arrest people (or even touch them during the pandemic), but they had to or everyone would be held at the pier.
The ferry captain didn’t want to call the police for this either. He just wants to drive the ferry and have a nice night on the water.
