Seniors 75+ in NYC Can Make a Reservation for the Covid Vaccine Now

My sister-in-law is a doctor. She took the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine in December. She’s extremely health conscious and was confident that the vaccine was safe. My brother-in-law is a cancer survivor and in the high risk group, so she didn’t want to bring the virus home to him.
I wasn’t sure if I was going to get the shot. After speaking with her and hearing how at ease she was, I will.
Governor Cuomo has now said that people 75+, teachers, police, firefights and public transit workers can make a reservation starting on Monday for the vaccine.

They may call you right away to come in for the vaccine. But you may have to wait until April – depending on the supply.
The Brooklyn Army Terminal is a location for the vaccine. On the site they said they are taking appointments starting on January 9th – see other locations for the vaccine here.
*Sadly, getting the vaccine doesn’t mean that we get to walk around without masks.

January 8, 2021Is Malliotakis a Seditionist?

Nicole Malliotakis is being labeled a seditionist. Mostly Democrats are calling her this, but some Republicans have spoken out to the media about her vote as well.
This guy writes this huge tweet, but he left out that he was a Democratic leader.
Democrats have called for Nicole to step down. Some have also called for her to be removed from Congress.
Would Malliotakis deliberately intend to offend America or the Constitution?
Nicole made this statement:

January 8, 2021Bay Ridge Democrats Are Having a Rally Over Nicole Malliotakis’ Vote

I originally saw this on a Socialists page. I didn’t realize the Bay Ridge Dems was a sponsor of this event.
The Bay Ridge Democrats won’t rally and call out one of their own members for siding with developers, not attending a meeting or rallying for lobbyists.
Yet on Saturday, January 9th, they are going to call out Nicole Malliotakis for voting with 146 other Republican representatives. Yeah okay guys….only what Republicans do is wrong.
Democrats need to be called out for corruption, but Chris McCreight isn’t brave enough to do it.

January 7, 2021Aldo’s in Bay Ridge is Closing

Aldo’s Shoe Store at 439 86th Street in Bay Ridge is closing. Other Aldo’s stores aren’t closing, but this one is.
For 86th Street, this will be the last shoe store on this area.
When Century’s closed people mourned the loss of having a department store in the neighborhood. Century’s shoe department was a good size and had shoes for men, women and children. TJ Maxx also had a shoe department.
Aldo’s is having their regular Winter 50% off sale right now – not a closing sale.
86th Street needs DSW. People will wreck DSW, but I think it could do well on 86th Street.

Senator Andrew Gounardes is up to the same old tricks. Andrew wrote a letter to the mayor and an article appears in the paper. (See here)
But nothing is done about property taxes.
Gounardes refuses to take action in Albany. His old property tax bill didn’t even get out of committee.
Are you fooled?

Last week there was a fire on 3rd Avenue and 92nd Street.
Everyone is alive, but some people lost their homes.
Murko the Brave cat survived the fire, and was given oxygen on the scene.
The Bay Ridge woman, who was carried out of the fire and down the ladder is in the hospital having surgeries on the severe burns to her leg.
The woman asked Itty Bitty Kitty Cat Rescue in Bay Ridge to help her find Murko to have a good home.
The woman lost everything. When she leaves the hospital, she needs to find a new home. She will be moving and starting again.
Murko is a nice cat. He’s four years old.

January 6, 2021Extremists Terrorized the Capitol Three Days After Nicole Malliotakis Arrived

Today, political extremists
“stormed the Capitol” in Washington around 1:00 pm. (See story)
Congress was certifying the electoral college’s votes today in Washington. Extremists were angry about Trump losing the 2020 election.
Some right-winged extremists were carrying the Confederate flag as they walked through the Capitol.
This wasn’t “civil disobedience, this was mayhem. Yet, the police didn’t seem to care these people were in the Capitol.
Everyone saw chaos on the television for several hours.
Other countries seeing this must have wondered what is going on in the United States.
Nicole Malliotakis just started her position as a Congresswoman a few days ago. She tweeted:

Democrats in Brooklyn and Staten Island didn’t cut Malliotakis any slack because Malliotakis said earlier this week that she opposed certifying the electoral college (See Comments)
They blamed Malliotakis and the Republicans for encouraging the “coop.” Later in the day, Malliotakis tweeted again and people told her to resign. (See here)
Update: The Socialist are having a protest on Saturday, January 9th at 1:00 pm outside of Malliotakis’ office on 7716 – 3rd Avenue. Sixty-five people have already said they will be there. (See here) Malliotakis won’t be there and doesn’t have an open office on Saturday.

The National Guard was called in to secure the area.
Tonight, we heard one of the extremist call this a revolution! Some people are delusional.
Update: Biden was confirmed by Congress. (See here)
Biden has a lot of work to do in getting this country back together. Extremists from both sides have been pulling this country apart for too long.
Four people died today during this chaos – Ashli Babbit was shot and killed. (See here)
Only 30 people were arrested during this!
In NYC, during a black lives protest, 30 people would be arrested in five minutes.
When the story is told through textbooks and documentaries in the future, will they include this afternoon of chaos at the Capitol? Will they get the story right?

January 6, 2021Dogs Can’t Get a Bill for Safety in Bay Ridge

Three weeks ago, some dogs were outside on a cold night in Bay Ridge. Ridgites went to the police and elected officials because they wanted the dogs to be safe.
The dogs were eventually taken inside, but the owner is legally allowed to keep a dog outside if he/she provides shelter for the dog.
Councilman Brannan was made aware of the situation. Brannan has the ability to change the law, but hasn’t submitted a bill to prevent this from happening again.
This week the Brooklyn Paper printed an opt-ed about the situation co-written by Brannan. Why would the Councilman write an article, when a bill hasn’t been submitted to NYC Council? Aren’t we all tired of this type of politics and newspaper articles?

Why would the Brooklyn Paper run the article? Meagan McGoldrick, the editor of the Brooklyn Paper is from Bay Ridge and knows what problems exist.
How do we know?

On December 1st, our neighbors at Bergen Place went to the news to shine a light on the problem on their block. The Brooklyn Paper wrote about it.
Prior to going to the news, Ridgites exhausted all other means. They let us know that politicians did not help them. The police could not help because the law doesn’t protect pets, the way it should!
Since December 1st when the story appeared in the news, no politician has submitted a bill to help animals and prevent these situations from happening again.
Other council members have submitted bills in 2021. Not Justin Brannan:

Here are Justin Brannan’s 2020 bills. There are none for animals.
Click here to see this larger.

We need to make sure that the people who are representing our community are really representing us and not lobbyists.
When Councilman Brannan started his position in NYC Council January 2018, he wasted no time putting in the drone bill that first month. (See here) He has tried pushing the bill several times over the years – even during the pandemic.
Chris McCreight, the Democratic District Leader of Bay Ridge works in Brannan’s office and has not spoken out about this. We have asked Chris to step down from that position.
McCreight, the President of the Bay Ridge Democrats tweeted this a few years ago:

January 5, 2021Lobbyists Decide Street Safety in Brooklyn, NY

Yoshi Balaban, a four-year-old child was killed yesterday in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn.
Most alarming is that the accident could have been prevented if politicians responded with solutions to previous traffic issues in that area.
This happened at 2025 – 67th Street. There are two schools there – the yeshiva and a public elementary school.
Dave Colon from StreetsBlog wrote: “Between 2018 and 2020, there were 39 crashes on the blocks surrounding the schools, that injured six pedestrians, two cyclists and two motorists. (Source)
The three elected officials for that area are: Senator Andrew Gounardes, Assemblyman Peter Abbate and Councilman Mark Treyger. Safety obviously isn’t their concern as all have been in office for years! They had over 30 chances to DO SOMETHING before yesterdays incident.
NYC Crashmapper clearly shows where the problem areas are. Why didn’t Gounardes, Abbate and Treyger take some action? (See Crashmapper)
When Gounardes first ran for office, Brad Lander and he were pushing the red light camera program. Back then, we didn’t know that lobbyists were pushing these ticket cameras. We thought the politicians were sincere on this issue.
Since 2016, NYC Council was lobbied by American Traffic Solutions (now called Verra Mobility), which received the $176 million contract from NYC – see here. Andrew Gounardes never mentioned that lobbyists were involved! (Lobbyist Database)
When Gounardes overrode Community Board 10 with a letter asking for unprotected bike lanes in Bay Ridge, I knew Gounardes wasn’t interested in safety (See here). Anyone who knows the area, knows people here don’t drive so well (visitors – not residents) and protected bike lanes are needed for children to ride safely on the street. In 2019, most of the fatal bike accidents happened in Brooklyn. (Source)
“In 2019, we saw both Brooklyn and Queens had the most accidents. “(Source)
“Brooklyn traffic fatalities increased by 24% and the number of persons killed in motor vehicle crashes went from 62 in 2018 to 77 in 2019, making Brooklyn the borough with the most casualties.” (Source)

Living in South Brooklyn, we know the streets have become less safe. At least 243 people died in traffic crashes in New York City in 2020 (From here)
Whose deciding the safety of our streets? The companies who have money to lobby elected leaders.
