January 24, 2021Why Does Justin Brannan Stand for Some Unions, But Crosses Picket Lines of Others?

Local 3 at Spectrum probably didn’t enjoy seeing Councilman Brannan providing content for Channel 1 News.
“For a city going on almost 9 million people, New York really comes together like a small town when we have to,” says Council Member @JustinBrannan. pic.twitter.com/Mo9A79JO41
— Spectrum News NY1 (@NY1) March 27, 2020
If Brannan is in solidarity with unions, why would he appear on Spectrum News?
Maybe Brannan didn’t think he crossed the Spectrum picket line because it was a pandemic and he didn’t enter the building?
The video below is from 2019 – he was at the Spectrum building. Why did he think it was okay to cross Local 3’s picket line?
NYC is set to be the first city in the nation to establish an office of animal welfare, which would oversee animal welfare administration, regulation, management and programs, in addition to kennels, zoos and pet shops. Councilman @justinbrannan joins us #MorningsOns1 pic.twitter.com/HnVTjs4XZe
— Spectrum News NY1 (@NY1) November 20, 2019
Local 3 has been on strike since 2017. Charter Communications was trying to decertify Local 3 Union. (Story here)
This week, AOC and some Democrats including Brannan went to the Bronx to show support at Hunts Point.
Last night, I stood proudly with my @Teamsters sisters & brothers fighting for a goddamn $1 raise.

These workers helped keep supermarket shelves stocked during the darkest days of COVID. They were there for us. We’re there for them. That’s how solidarity works. #HuntsPointStrike pic.twitter.com/5FIpr4z0tT
I don’t get it! Are some unions worthy of his time and some he just crosses their picket line?
If Spectrum News got no response from any politicians, would Local 3 be back to work by now?
In the past, Brannan has pointed out when other politicians crossed picket lines, why would he think it was okay to do?
In November, Brannan is up for re-election….his visit to the Bronx this week looks like a political move, rather than support for unions.

January 23, 2021Status Q Billards is Back Open – Congratulations on Winning!

Status Q Billiards in Bay Ridge posted the above status on social media! (See here)

Sixteen pool halls in NY sued because they have not been able to play pool indoors since last March. The judge order an injunction to let them temporarily open while the lawsuit is being decided. (See here)

During the summer, Brian Thomas, owner of Status Q was able to stay afloat because set up outside he has a liquor license and was able to serve food and drinks. But this has been a harsh year for his business!
In August, Thomas spoke out against the Covid Restrictions in August when other businesses were allowed to open. (See here)
No politicians spoke out for this place – even though Status Q is across the street from Councilman Brannan’s office.
This story didn’t receive any attention in the local papers because they are busy publishing press releases from the politicians.
This was a huge win and hopefully the pool hall owners will win the lawsuit and remain open!
If you are in Bay Ridge, stop by Status Q on 3rd Avenue and 82nd Street for a game.

Even if you don’t play pool – grab a drink and congratulate Brian!
