March 1, 2021Man Arrested in Sunset Park Stabbing at Gambling Den – Not a Hate Crime

A 45-year-old man named William Smith from the Bronx was arrested for the stabbings on 57th Street and 8th Avenue this weekend. (See here)
The NYPD was able to capture this man quickly because someone got the license plate of the getaway car.

Police have determined it was not a hate crime (mentioned in this video)
Yong Zheng, a good Samaritan who stepped in to help and was killed – he was stabbed in the back. (RIP) Zheng was returning home from a Lunar New Year celebration. He leaves behind a wife and 5-year-old son.

February 28, 2021Person Barricaded in Building on 99th Street in Bay Ridge

A little after 5:15 pm, the Citizen App showed a serious situation on 99th Street and 4th Avenue in Brooklyn. (See here)

A man barricaded himself in a building. It was originally reported that he had a knife. People continued to post about updates until almost 7 pm.
Hopefully, the man is okay and able to talk to the police to resolve the situation peacefully.

February 28, 2021Robbery at the Smoke Shop on 92nd and 4th Avenue in Bay Ridge Reported by Loudlabs

This morning around 5:30 am, The Smoke Shop & Premium Cigars shop at 9257 – 4th Avenue was robbed(It’s next to Kelly’s Tavern).
A man and woman entered the store and took scratch off lottery tickets and ran out of the store.
Adam from Loudlabs reported: “The bodega worker went after them and called 911. Police upon arrival initiated a foot pursuit. A 10-13 was transmitted requesting backup. Aviation was also requested to assist with the perp search. The pursuit ultimately ended in the vicinity of the Staples parking lot nearby. “
The police arrested a man and woman.

The Pour House in Bay Ridge received a check from Amanda Donates. Covid 19 has really hurt small businesses in our community.
Amanda Lyons set up an organization called Amanda Donates. With help from her family and friends Lyons is making a difference in NYC.
Lyons is from Staten Island. She works as a paralegal and attends law school. (See here)
On the top of Amanda’s Instagram account, she quoted Winston Churchill: “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”
At the end of January, Amanda started fundraising for The Pour House because she knows small businesses need help.

It’s nice to see a story of pure kindness!
