Has the 68th Precinct Shut Down the Bay Ridge Racetrack?

Drag racing has existed in Bay Ridge for a long time. Last Summer and early Fall it was the worst.
It has been a bit quieter lately. Has the NYC Highway Police and 68th Street Precinct closed the racetrack?

March 29, 2021Brian Fox – Who Is He? Why Is He Running to Become Bay Ridge’s Councilman?

Brian Fox was interviewed by the Brooklyn Paper. (See here)
– He’s a resident of Bay Ridge for many years
– He’s a local business owner in Bay Ridge
– He’s not a professional politician (This is a great thing!)
Fox didn’t find NYC Council’s response to the pandemic acceptable. Brannan failed to address the theft, vandalism, graffiti and general crime in the area.
Fox supports the NYPD and local businesses.
Surprising:
Fox said he would make the community more accessible to the disabled and elderly. That’s a good thing.
Funny:
Fox to the Brooklyn Paper: “The current councilman spends too much time on social media and getting into arguments with constituents on twitter.” That’s the #Truth
Fox says he won’t be on social media that much but you will see less crime, trash and potholes.

March 29, 2021What Happened to the Bay Ridge Socialists?

The Brooklyn Paper announced that both Justin Brannan and Brian Fox will not face a primary this year. (See here)
Only two candidates files to run for Community District 43 (See here)
The Bay Ridge Socialists vowed to run someone against Brannan last Spring. (See here)
Remembeer when Brannan said he wasn’t in his office, but there was a pizza delivery to his office while the socialists were protesting outside? He played that group of people, and they seemed pretty annoyed, so I am suprised they didn’t bring a challenger.
What happened to the socialists? Maybe they moved away due to the pandemic!

March 29, 2021Why Are Brannan and Gounardes Delayed on Responding to Hate Towards Groups of People?

Senator Gounardes said that something happened a week and a half ago at the location where he and Brannan gathered yesterday. The audio isn’t clear on the video. (See here)
Late yesterday, this graphic appeared on Facebook:

It’s good they are finally speaking out, but why did they wait so long?
Councilman Brannan could have put an article in the newspaper about this hate that residents, like Maureen and Vanessa experienced. Instead, Justin Brannan answered questions about himself, so he can get an article in The Brooklyn Paper today. His election isn’t until November, so there was no reason for him to do that now.
On Channel 1 News, the two women told their own story because neither politician did.
Maureen Ki was spit on outside of her senior center on 18th Avenue and 73rd Street.
In a separate incident, sixteen year old, Vanessa Lam was also spit on and then pushed into the street on 18th Avenue and 68th Street. Gounardes and Brannan should have shared this!
Why didn’t Councilman Brannan have this speak-out event on Saturday or Sunday so more people could be there for these women? Why did Gounardes and Brannan wait until late yesterday to tell the community about today’s event?
In the Summer, there was hate spoken in Bay Ridge. Brannan took over a week to respond to it. Gounardes never responded or commented on it. (See here)
The hate that people in our community are experiencing is awful, but it’s been allowed to go unchecked by politicians and the media for a long time.
In Bay Ridge, some families have been targets of hate at the playground this weekend!

March 29, 2021Spectrum Strike Has Been Going on 4 Years Now

Spectrum workers have been on strike for four years now.
Only a few people mentioned Spectrum’s Strike – we should have seen NYC Council speak out about it.
When you see politicians like Justin Brannan (See here) cross the picket line and appear on Channel 1 News, you know those politicians don’t support unions (or maybe they just support unions who donate to their campaign).

March 28, 2021Frontus Cosponsors Pot Bill Called “Marihauana Regulation and Taxation Act”

Assemblywoman Mathylde Frontus co-sponsored the “Marihuana Regulation and Taxation Act.” It isn’t even spelled correctly (see above screenshot) and it’s legislation – see NYS Site

HERE’S THE STRANGE PART: On March 24th, Mathylde asked on Twitter how people felt about it. #PlayingPolitics If Mathlyde was a sponsor of the bill, then she didn’t care what anyone thought. (And people told Frontus that)
On March 25th, Frontus said on Twitter that there wasn’t even a bill.

We are in a global pandemic and Mathylde Frontus thought that this bill was necessary now! She believes these are the benefits of the bill.
Pot was decriminalized in New York State in August 2019 (See here), so this bill is unnecessary.

Many people know someone who has overdosed and died. Drug overdoses were up in NYC in 2020 (See here and here). Neither Mathylde Frontus or Senator Andrew Gounardes introduced legislation to correct the problem. These are Frontus’ bills from last year. (See here)
Look at how many people overdosed in a short time period of time in NYC. Stats from NYC’s report:

Frontus also didn’t tell us that people that pot businesses are locked out of the Federal banking system. (Source) So pot businesses can’t use any of the big banks. This makes the marijuana business mostly cash and subjected to the same fraud as any mostly mostly cash business. Which also means the revenue generated for NYC will be far less than expected (and everyone will claim they don’t know why!)
How does this bill help the people in Coney Island and Bay Ridge? In Brooklyn, you can buy pot easily on most street corners. The drug dealer’s car is the one that stops on your street and one of your neighbor gets in. Your neighbor stays in the car for a few minutes to get his/her stash, then he/she leaves the car and and someone else hops in the front seat with the driver.
The news spoke about this bill and said: “NYC will become a multi-billion dollar cannabis center.” That doesn’t sound good. That means there is going to be a lot people walking around high and being morons. There will be a lot more accidents and then politicians will tell us that more red light cameras are needed.
When our representatives are talking to their colleagues in Albany, they forget they represent Brooklyn.
Brooklyn is an area where people take things to the extreme. Do you think people are going to abide by the three pot plants per person rule?
There are a lot more problems that the NYS Assembly should have be dealing with: tenants who don’t have money to pay the rent (the Eviction Ban is over on May 1st) and small landlords who aren’t able to make ends meet because they aren’t receiving rent. Families are worried. This is a hard position for people to be and representatives like Mathylde Frontus should have put them first BEFORE THE WEED!
I am sad to see Mathylde Frontus let Carl Heastie help take the heat off Governor Andrew Cuomo. People stopped talking about Cuomo to concentrate on the pot bill.

March 28, 2021A Man Died on 86th Street & 4th Avenue

There was a lot of police activity outside of Aye Kebob Turkish Restaurant on the corner of 86th Street and 4th Avenue this morning.

The police sectioned off the area outside the restaurant because a homeless man passed away on the street. (I don’t know who it was yet.)
RIP.
