Nature’s Grill is Having a Bad Year
Nature’s Grill is on 74th Street and 3rd Avenue in Bay Ridge.
In December – right before Christmas, Dimitri Verteouris, co-owner of the well-loved Nature’s Grill Eatery in Bay Ridge passed away. (See here) Dimitri also owned Standard Burger.
Today his brother, the newspapers are reporting that the other co-owner of Nature’s Grill, Anastasios Verteouris was charged with selling oxycodone from 2014 – 2018. (See here and here)
Neither paper mentioned Dimitri’s passing.
It’s weird that they are charging Tasos for something from 2018. Hopefully, there is more to this story as this family is mourning and now dealing with this.

A Market Next to a Market
It’s hard enough to be a business owner without your competition moving in next door.
5 Borough Market on the corner of 84th Street and 5th Avenue used to have Sammy’s Bargain Store as its next-door-neighbor. Now it has the Fresh Central Little Market next to it.
In small communities, we should have something that spaces out the same type of stores and protects the person who has already set up a business.

They added a rack with Citibikes in front of Leif Erikson Park on 4th Avenue and 67th Street in Bay Ridge.

Champion Martial Arts in Bay Ridge Has Classes for 3-Year-Olds
When Spring hits, parents start searching for t-ball teams for their children. Most baseball teams start at 4 years old.
Champions Martial Arts on 3rd Avenue and 93rd Street has classes Monday through Saturday for children 3 years old and up.

Many Shuttered Storefronts in Bay Ridge
Covid-19 hurt many businesses.
The Brooklyn Veterinary Group kept their New Utrecht office. (See here)
Bay Ridge had empty store fronts long before Covid-19 hit.
When there are multiple closures on one block, it looks terrible:
Lighthouse Diner
Property owners or their realtors should be required to put banner signs across the top so that the rest of the block doesn’t have to look at the ugly empty storefronts.
Compass Realty uses these signs:
The old Paint Your Pot Storefront is empty, but doesn’t make the area look blighted.

Graffiti on 86th Street Mural in Bay Ridge
NYC Optical is on the corner of 86th Street and 5th Avenue. They put a very cool mural on the side of their building.
And it now it has has graffiti on it.
