Cellary Wine Tasting in Bay Ridge 5/21

Cellary Wine Store on 3rd Avenue and 89th Street in Bay Ridge is having a wine tasting tonight, Friday, May 21st from 5 – 7 pm. They have a backyard too!

Last month, we were making a basket for a newly engaged couple.

I ran into Cellary to grab a special bottle of wine. I told the owner, Catherine what I was looking for and she pulled out this bottle. Perfect!

The store is fresh, modern and a gem in Bay Ridge!

Justin Brannan Voted in Favor of the Electric Scooters Last Year

Many residents are calling for NYC to do something about the electric scooters riding on sidewalks. Journalist, Jessica Parks wrote an article about the scooters on Shore Road, Parks failed to mention that Councilman Brannan voted in favor of that bill last June.

Now that Spring is here, more people are out on new scooters. Some scooters drivers are riding on sidewalks where people are walking.

There is an explosion of these types of vehicles and they aren’t licensed. At the May Community Board 10 people complained about them. When something happens, the drivers of these vehicles just ride away because there is no way to identify them.

By now, Brannan should have done something, but he isn’t willing to revise the bill.

On Shore Road, the pedestrian area and bike area needs to be labeled so people don’t get hurt. When an accident happens, Brannan and other pols will offer prayers, but safety measures should have been put into effect before these e-bikes were allowed.

Gounardes Graphic Fooled Street Safety and Bike Advocates

Like the senator before, Gounardes outreach extends what he does – either by silly press releases about bills that never get to the floor or pass.

Gounardes’ team also likes to build graphics like the one above.

If you read the graphic, it shows that Gounardes’ only contribution was that he made a bill that was signed into law that educates drivers about cyclists. That’s great for new drivers, but it doesn’t do two things: educate all drivers AND educate cyclists about the rules of the road! (And yes, they need to know the rules of the road too.)

The senator’s failure to understand something simple like who is being left out (a loophole) is a regular thing for Gounardes!

But for today, he’s done what he set out to do, fool bike enthusiast into thinking he has done all the bills listed under his name. He’s never even mentioned these other bills on Facebook or Twitter!

Why is Justin Brannan Treating this Activist Group So Poorly?

Visitors showed up to Councilman Brannan’s office because they want to save the East River Park. All are professional and masked, but were not welcomed into the office.

Brannan’s staffer speaks to them as if they are unwelcome a Jehovah’s Witnesses at her door on a Saturday morning. This is not the way anyone should be spoken to at a City Council Representatives office.

#SomethingIsntRightHere

Yes, the whole report is redacted like this page! This is a failure of government to be accountable to NY’ers.

The activists are at Brannan’s office because he is the chair of the Committee on Resiliency and Waterfronts. They are there because a portion of the East River Park is being closed and they can’t get any answers. The report the received (above) has been blacked out. Brannan receives an extra stipend for heading the committee so he should be able to answer their questions OR AT LEAST take the time to listen to their needs.

On social media, Brannan tells them to call his office for a meeting, but they aren’t able to get one. Now he just ignores their tweets. Several weeks ago, the activists had a protest at the park, Brannan was invited, but was a no-show.

Another activist, who Brannan has given the run-around to for several months, wrote an Op-Ed about her experience trying to contact him and to save this park. (See here) Up until yesterday, May 19th, Brannan still had not set up a meeting with her.

When you watch this video you will see that Brannan’s staffer does not welcome these visitors in the office. All the visitors are masked.

Brannan Zap from Woman at the Reel on Vimeo.

The called the video: THE BRANNAN ZAP. That’s sad that activists can’t get help!

This happened last week, Brannan still had not called the women and given them an appointment. On social media, they asked other people to help them.

Notice Brannan’s staffer does not go and tell Brannan that he has visitors. The protocol at this office isn’t correct.

If Justin Brannan doesn’t want to speak with people, he’s in the wrong position!

We can understand that Brannan might be busy writing a press release and can’t meet with them at that moment. But the staffer refused to set up an appointment for the women to speak with Brannan!

Brannan’s staffer even goes on to tell the activists that the city probably won’t change the outcome on the park! So rude! They have a right to get information and help so they can fight for their park.

Even stranger, this staffer used to be an activist. Did she ever imagine her job would be to block people from seeing a councilman? There’s obviously something wrong if activists who are trying to save a park can’t even speak with an arrogant politician.
