April 28, 2021Bay Ridge Farmer’s Market Begins May 1st

While many people like the farmer’s market that shows up on 3rd Avenue and 95th Street, many residents don’t because they feel this takes business away from Bay Ridge businesses.
While these initiatives start out good, NYC is in a pandemic. It’s not surprising that they didn’t suspend these markets because no one is monitoring it.

Starting May 1st and every Saturday afterwards until November 20th, the Farmers Market will be in the Walgreens Parking Lot on 3rd Avenue and 95th Street from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm.
Click here for a list of the farmers and sellers that will be at Walgreens every Saturday morning from 8:00 – 3:00 pm.

April 27, 2021Louie’s Gyros Vegan Menu is Explored by Vegan BodegaCat
Bay Ridge resident, Rebecca (aka Vegan Bodegacat) shared her visit to Louie’s Gyros in Bay Ridge.

Louie’s was out of the vegan tzatsiki and spinach pies because they are very popular, so VeganBodegaCat got the vegan gyro, falafel sandwich, fries and hummus.
The vegan gyro is made out of vegetables.
VeganBodegaCat is building a camper with her Dad. See video Very cool.
See her other pics here.
VeganBodegaCat liked the vegan gyro from Louie’s and the hummus. She liked the falafel’s color, but it was a bit dry. Remember there was no tzatziki sauce left at Louie’s that day…so call before you go, if you are interested in the vegan options.

VeganBodegaCat has a cute shop online here.

April 27, 2021Walter J. Nelson Jr. Street Renaming 5/1

May 1st – What a beautiful day for a street renaming

On Saturday, May 1st there was a street renaming at 68th Street and Colonial Road in Bay Ridge at 11:00 am.

The street honors Fire Department EMS Lieutenant Walter J. Nelson Jr.

We should name more streets after people who devoted their lives to helping others. We should also have a book or site so that people know who they are and why the street was named after them!

Lt. Walter Nelson died in 2014 from a 9/11 related illness. In 2018, his name was added to the World Trade Center Memorial Wall at FDNY headquarters.
I’m glad his life is being celebrated in this community. Many people know Walter’s son, Kristopher – saving lives is in their family! Kristopher has has taught so many people in Bay Ridge how to do CPR! Good people make more good people!
