July 14, 2021Josephine from Lenny’s Pizza was on Pizza Wars

Brooklyn’s own, Josephine Giordano of Lenny’s Pizza faced off against the host of Pizza Wars, Nicole Russell. Lenny’s Pizzaria is legendary because John Travolta went to Lenny’s in the movie, Saturday Night Fever.

Jo was herself – good natured and light-hearted. She had a great personality and would make a great cooking show regular.

They each had to make a deep dish pizza with sauce from Lenny’s. Jo doesn’t usually cook deep dish pizzas, so this was a first for her. She added a NY spin on the deep dish, which made it look a lot better than a regular deep dish pizza.

You can see a recap of the show here:
Although Nicole Russell won the challenge, the show was good and they had a good time too.

Nicole shared this picture on Instagram:

July 13, 2021Why Were Bay Ridge Businesses Left Out of NYC Council Budget?

For the last few years we have heard how hard it has been for the merchants to pay for holiday lights.
Last year, a Ridgite started a GoFundMe to raise money for the lights on 3rd Avenue and the community chipped in. .
NYC Council came out with the budget for this year. (See here, then hold down CTRL+F and type Brannan and hit enter to search).
Many NYC Council members made sure their business communities received money for holidays lights on their streets as they recover from the pandemic:
1) Councilman Treyger set aside money for the business districts in Coney Island. ($30,000 for lighting and gifts)

2) Councilman Holden set aside $6,500 for holiday lights.

3) Council member Rosenthal set aside $8.500 for New Year’s Eve Holiday Stoll.

4) Council member Diaz set aside $70,000 for holiday lighting in the 37th Council.

5) Councilman Dinowitz set aside $30,000.

6) Councilman Eric Ulrich set aside $25,000 with Speaker Johnson for holiday lights on Jamaica Avenue.

7) Councilman Moya set aside $13,000 for Thanksgiving and holiday events and lighting.

8) Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer set aside $36,000 ($17,500 + $15,000 for a holiday tree lighting and lights + $3,500 for a Summer concert series and holiday street lights)

Why did Councilman Brannan leave our the business areas out of the budget?
Why Did $50,000 of Our Community Money Go to NY Law School to Teach People About Redistricting?

Councilman Brannan gave $50,000 our our district’s money to NY Law School to educate people about redistricting….that’s crazy! That’s the state’s job because they are doing the redistricting – not a local neighborhood!
$50,000 of our tax money is being given to a law school. #SomethingIsNotRightHere Is this for someone’s salary? Flyers to educate the public don’t cost 50K.

Why isn’t Senator Andrew Gounardes funding that?
Most people in Bay Ridge don’t realize that tax dollars are going for the Greenmarket on Saturdays at Walgreens, while taking money away from merchants who sell organic fruits and vegetables.
I thought the farmers who sold there paid to have a table! $6,000 gone (See here – page 182)

Why did Brannan allocate over $600,000 to a hospital and not tell anyone in the community? (See here)
