August 3, 2021Senator Gounardes and Others Play Politics in Bay Ridge Today

Attorney General Tish James released the report about Andrew Cuomo today at 11:00 am. (This is the report.)

Could Tish James’ announcement have been a secret that was kept from our trio of Bay Ridge politicians?
At 11:00 am, Bay Ridge’s politicians were standing on 86th Street with ten people from Rider’s Alliance acting as if their protest will affect the Federal government’s money for the MTA.

** Why would they have this today when the truth was coming out about Andrew Cuomo and it was time for the women to be heard?
A 10 billion dollar infrastructure bill has already been planned for NY from the federal government – information was in the NY Times – see here.

The federal bill has nothing to do with our local representatives. When it passes, will our local papers tell something different? Stay tuned!

Rider’s Alliance was nowhere to be found in January 2020 when a woman was sexually assaulted in the 95th Street train station bathroom in Bay Ridge. No politician spoke out about the incident either. (Info here) The Daily News shared information about the suspect here and said the man was released due to bail reform.
We need to expect more from our local leaders, as press release politics is a thing of the past and continuing to do this just shows that local politicians are not accountable to the people in this community.
Mathylde Frontus is the only politician that doesn’t have a car and uses mass transit. We normally don’t see her rallying with Gounardes and Brannan. The last time she did, it was for the Verrazzano Bridge discount that never happened. See here for the story and here for the bill that was never passed. (just press release politics.)

August 3, 2021Palestinians In Bay Ridge Were Not Chanting What Social Media Said they Were Chanting
“We don’t want no Jews here” they chant.
— Arsen Ostrovsky (@Ostrov_A) August 2, 2021
No, this is not Tehran, Damascus or Lebanon. But BROOKLYN, New York! cc. @NYPDHateCrimes
This is Jew hatred and incitement, full stop. Direct result of incendiary rhetoric from likes of @IlhanMN & @RashidaTlaib!pic.twitter.com/XXAwXCmYT1
On July 30th, Palestinians held a rally in Bay Ridge. (See here) We heard about it after it happened.
On August 2nd, someone on social media wrote that they were chanting: “We don’t want Jews here.”
They were not chanting that – they were chanting what they always chant: “We don’t want no two state.”
We have had people chant hate into Bay Ridge (See here), but this is not the same.
While it doesn’t sound grammatically correct, it’s a chant. Could they adjust it to: “We don’t want a two state?” Maybe.

August 3, 2021Vax Cards Will Be Needed Indoors in NYC

WOW! A lot of changes happened in a day. Yesterday, Mayor de Blasio wasn’t willing to call for a mask mandate yesterday (it’s needed).
I never stopped wearing a mask while indoors because my husband is a cancer survivor and I’ll do whatever to keep him healthy.
Today the mayor said: NY’ers will need to show vaccination cards for indoor spaces such as restaurants, bars and other indoor venues. See here.
This new mandate starts on August 16th and restaurants owners will be required to check proof of vaccination.

This will be enforced starting on September 13th. People will use their card or the NYC Excelsior Pass on their phone (info here) to show proof of vaccination – only one dose is required for now.
Is it the right thing to do? It’s an action because people don’t want to wear masks any more. The mayor must have been advised that the Delta variant is pushing up Covid rates and he needs to act.
40% of NYC is not vaccinated. Some people are waiting for the FDA’s approval before taking the vaccine.
Many are worried that this will hurt small business owners and restaurants:

There is a lot of al fresco dining places in Bay Ridge, so while restaurants may see less indoor diners, it is still possible to go out to eat.

August 3, 2021No Trump = Ughhh

I don’t get it. Why would people want to take the picture with him now?
At first, I thought this was a wax Trump because he is 6’3″ and doesn’t look that tall next to Congresswoman Malliotakis.
Many people don’t realize that Trump can run again for government because he was acquitted in both impeachment trials. I don’t think America will re-elect him because people had enough of the drama. It’s nice to not have him on television.

August 2, 2021Intermediate School 322 Is Coming to Nathans Site

The old Nathans site on 86th Street and 7th Avenue in Bay Ridge has a new sign for the new middle school, IS 322 that will be built there.

The sign says that the demolition of the Nathan’s building will happen by December 2021. Information about this school can be seen here.

They construction crew put up a trailer office on Battery Avenue side of the Nathan’s property.

“If you recall, the property was bought by a real estate developer for $12.25 million and then flipped to the School Construction Authority for $25 million in June 2019.” (Source) USE YOUR VOTE THIS NOVEMBER TO VOTE AGAINST DEVELOPERS WINNING IN OUR DISTRICT. **See bottom note
What about traffic on this busy street? The Crash Map shows this corner had a lot of accidents. (See here) In comparison to other school sites, this area has lot more accidents.

Only a few people seemed to care about this as many people present had grown children. The area already has a Don’t Block the Box site as it is a very busy corner.

“The building (IS 322) does not expect to be open to students until September 2024.” (Source)
The planning group said that the surrounding buildings would not hear the band classes inside the school as they were sound-proofing the building and were being strategic about window placement.

** The same developer that owned Nathans will be **WINNING** again at the other new school in Bay Ridge. WHAT OTHER SCHOOL 88th Street and 5th Avenue – across from the Post Office (and car dealership). More info about that building here.
