It’s 11:25 pm and we hear a lot of firetrucks headed down to 213 – 89th Street because a fire was reported there. (Source)

Fire at the Mosque on 86th Street in Bay Ridge

There was an oil burner fire at Masjid Al Rahman Mosque at 333 86th Street in Bay Ridge around 7:30 pm tonight. Rain was pouring on Bay Ridge because of Tropical Storm Ida.

I didn’t even know there was a mosque on 86th Street. It looks nice inside. (Take a look – scroll down on the left after you click)

The fantastic firemen put out the fire.

I like that the firemen hang around a bit after the fire is out because it lets the neighborhood know the fire is over.

Firemen EMTs Saved Two People in Bklyn

Two firemen saw a car on fire while they were on the way to a call in Brooklyn. (See story)

FDNY EMTs, Jordan Kolesar and Ahmed Gaber stopped and rescued two passengers from a burning vehicle yesterday.

Thank God for these brave men!

Dance at Catrinas in Bay Ridge 9/2

Earlier in the Summer, a friend of ours stopped at Catrinas to pickup food to bring to our house.

She said the place was alive and everyone was dancing. I couldn’t picture it as it isn’t a loud place.

Catrinas brought in a young DJ and things get crazy! See video:

If you need to dance before the Summer ends, DJ Mikey D will be at Catrinas on this Thursday night, September 2nd.

Spotted Lanternflys Seen in Brooklyn

Everyone in Broooklyn talking about the spotted lanternfly. These bugs are from China, Vietnam and Taiwan.

The bugs aren’t good at flying and actually hop around. This shows you similiar bugs to the lanternfly.

If you see them, you are asked to kill them and report a sighting here. Why? They damage trees (especially fruit-bearing tress) and grape vines. They can kill a tree if they remain on them.

In the United States there is no predator for the spotted lanternfly. In Pennsylvania, the economy has been affected by the lanternfly.

If you have a tree, put tape around your tree and collect the spotted lanternfly every few days.

The lanternfly has been seen on the Shore Road bike path in Bay Ridge. Bring a small bottle and collect the lanternfly in the bottle by putting the bottle over the bug. Then cover the bottle when you have collected enough of them. (I know it sounds terrible, but if you have ever seen a bug kill a huge tree, you would go start collecting them right now.)

These bugs are not poisonous, but other bugs don’t eat them because they are spotted and red.

The FBI Was In Dyker Heights To Pick Up Some Guys Who Stormed the Capitol

The FBI closed down 10th Avenue between 85th and 86th Street in Dyker Heights early this morning with a dog.

They came to get a 23-year-old man who had stormed the Capitol building on January 6, 2021. Story Here. Information from cell phones led to the arrest. (See here) (Tip: Don’t take photos when you are doing something illegal.)

His friend from Sheepshead Bay was also arrested. (See here)

They were charged with trespassing and disorderly conduct. Many people don’t like that the government spent so much time on this, but the government has to investigate each person because this is considered domestic terrorism.
