November 30, 2025Stores like Crate and Barrel
My best friend and I are very different when it comes to decorating our homes. I love old world, traditional things with a modern swing (like Pottery Barn) and she only likes contemporary furniture and modern home goods….nothing else.
The other day she asked me what stores are like Crate and Barrel? She love the marimekko print fabric at the Marimekko Shop in NYC. She couldn’t think of many alternatives to Crate and Barrel other than West Elm.
Of course I was sure I could name more or ask a friend who is a decorator.
- Chiasso came to mind first (same owner as Crate & Barrel)
- CB2 – Crate and Barrel’s less expensive store – cheaper is good!
- Overstock is great for inexpensive sofas – shipping is very low at Overstock
- Scandinavian Designs which is a store like Ikea
- Ikea – inexpensive & great design
- Room and Board – nice stuff!
- ByDesign Furniture
- Home Decorators has modern items too
- Anthropologie $$ (home sale section)
- APlusR Store
- Home Sense – we don’t have them in NY
- Jonathan Adler – more expensive (sale section)
- West Elm – look for sales here
- Urban Outfitters has furniture and bedding
I don’t think Pier 1 Imports or ZGallerie are in the same category as Crate and Barrel although many people like shopping there for fun items. World Market is a store just like Pier 1 although I have seen them have similar rugs to Crate and Barrel or West Elm.
I love to go to Crate and Barrel Outlet in Cranbury, NJ. Although I don’t think there is lot of great furniture there, you can get great deals on things for parties: glassware, serving trays and pitchers. I also like the organizers and really well discounted material here.
The Crate and Barrel Outlet in NJ was at (it’s been closed):
315 Half Acre Road
Cranbury, NJ 08512
(609) 819-0200
I also love to hit up the Waterford Crystal Outlet in Cranbury as well because you can get great gifts there for amazing prices (they have a super sale twice a year).
If you can think of any other stores that are like or similar to Crate and Barrel or West Elm, please leave it in the comments. Thanks.
