Eric Adams Announced David Banks at the New NYC Chancellor of Schools

The announcement is making many people happy because David Banks is an educator. Someone who has taught in NYC knows what is going on.
Mayor de Blasio’s biggest success was because he appointed an educator to NYC schools, Carmen Farina – not the other guy!
Banks is showing he is curriculum and wants to make sure all students in NYC know how to read.
You can’t take an educator from Florida and expect him to understand NYC schools and families. Caranza went on the attack with parents – bad move in NYC. (See here) If parents are taking the time to be at the school and meetings, it means that education is important to them.
Banks said he will expand Gifted and Talented Programs. (See his statements here)

Incoming Schools Chancellor David Banks will do away with several choices made under the de Blasio administration. He wants to keep both the gifted and talented program and the SHSAT, while also expanding on these opportunities for students to get into specialized schools. pic.twitter.com/qrUr4F8WJX

It’s nice to see Chancellor Banks start on such a positive and hopeful tone- that matters. Banks also didn’t talk favorably about people working at Tweed who were impacting education.
If you know anything about education, G&T is special education – it’s necessary for children who need to be challenged.
Where are all those politicians who supported G&T when they ran for office, but then folded when Mayor de Blasio announced he was ending these programs, politicians like Senator Andrew Gounardes folded – he didn’t fight back – at all.
Brannan initially suppoted G&T, but then went silent.
Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis consistently supported G&T – she didn’t waver on it.
Today, Malliotakis was satisfied with Banks appointment.

December 10, 202111th Avenue Got the Old Xmas Lights

For the last few years, the 3rd Avenue Merchants talked about the cost of Christmas lights. Last year, residents chipped in to help fund the lights.
I don’t know who paid for the lights this year. In other communities, NYC Council members put it on their list of items.
Today, Frank shared the photo of 11th Avenue with the old style of Christmas lights. The modern style lights are more energy efficient as they are LEDs.
I would love to see the bill for these lights.
Some vender is making money on these old lights – while the rest of the city has moved to the new style lights.

December 10, 2021Brannan Mentioned a Book Published in 1998 at the Speaker’s Forum

When people are asked, “What book did you last read?” at an interview or in this case, the NYC Speakers forum, they are asking to see if the person keeps current with the latest publications or trends.
A good answer to the question would be a current top seller or an inspiring autobiography. Some of the Councilmembers at the forum spoke about current books. Some checked the titles on their bookcase.
Justin Brannan talked about a book originally published in 1998.

That’s how you know Errol Louis’ questions were real and the politicians didn’t have them beforehand! (Sometimes politicians are given them by the people doing the debate/forum)
Louis wanted to show who was current and who wasn’t.
Brannan didn’t even realize he messed up on the question because he tweeted about it:

The version Brannan showed in his tweet was published in 2000.
Brannan got very little response from the tweet because it was an old book – probably from when he was in college.

December 9, 2021When the NYC Police Commissioner Speaks, But Senator Andrew Gounardes Can’t Hear Him

NYPD Commissioner regularly tweets and shows how bail reform is allowing people to repeat crimes. Although he is on Twitter, Senator Andrew Gounardes can’t hear him because Gounardes is busy posting photos of himself or talking about bills he wrote that haven’t gone anywhere in years.

Commissioner Shea has said that the problem with safety in NYC is due to the bad guy being able to get out of jail so easily. When nothing happens to them, they don’t care and repeat the same thing.

December 9, 2021When Brannan Was Silent Over a 34 Year Contract with ACC and NYC – Why Didn’t His Staff Say Anything? How About the Bay Ridge Democrats – Doesn’t Anyone Like Dogs?

Tonight I watched Councilman Justin Brannan on Spectrum’s NYC Speaker Forum. Brannan shouldn’t be running for NYC Speaker, he’s not someone who can speak up for other people.
Brannan was the only NYC Council person at the NYC Speaker forum who couldn’t say Mayor de Blasio shouldn’t run for governor. That should tell him that he isn’t the right person for speaker. (See here)
When NYC went into a 34-year contract with Animal Care and Control (ACC), why did Brannan remain silent? Animal activists called on him and Justin didn’t do anything. What’s worse is that his whole office knows that a contract went down with a kill shelter and not one of them could stand up for dogs or cats. Is there one person in his office who likes animals? (More info)
This is a soldier’s dog that Animal Care and Control in Brooklyn is going to kill on 12/11 – (More info)

The Bay Ridge Democrats must realize that Brannan was silent when this contract went through. A weird real estate deal also went down with it. Isn’t there one person in the Bay Ridge Democrats that would speak up for cats and dogs? NYC was supposed to move to a No-Kill Shelter System – not lock themselves in a 34-year contract with a shelter.
Justin Brannan did the wrong thing with the East River Park. People went to him because he is the chairman of a committee for the resiliency. While plans were being made and the community was left out, Brannan should have provided a complete report to the activists or requested a hearing for the activists. They received a report where all the information was blacked out:

Corey Johnson said not one Councilmember requested a hearing.
How could all of the people at Brannan’s office think it was alright for Justin not to take any action when he chairs that committee? Someone has to believe it is unethical – why would they stay silent over it? The activists received such a runaround, they taped their encounter at the office. See here
How did Brannan move so far away from representing people and thinking that he should be the NYC Council Speaker when he isn’t able to even speak with activists over a park? Why are his staffers silent when they know this is wrong? It’s takes a lot of people doing the wrong thing to allow these huge problems to exist.
