Sunset Park Fire on 6th Avenue and 58th Street

Around 4:00 pm, a fire started at 5822 – 6th Avenue in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Nine people and one firefighter were brought to the hospital. One fire fighter was treated on the scene.

This is up the block from where the Parish Club used to be…..for those of you who know Sunset Parker. Videos here
The fire turned into a two alarm fire and then a three-alarm fire around 4:20 pm. We could hear the sirens in Bay Ridge.

Pedestrian Hit On 5th Avenue in Bay Ridge Today

Right before 1:00 pm today, a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on 5th Avenue and Bay Ridge Parkway. (Video here)
Sadly, more accidents in our area seem to be happening in the afternoon hours.
Hopefully, all the people brought to the hospital will be alright.

Car Without Plates in Dyker Heights
83rd street & 12th Avenue – Brooklynite called this in to 311, but the call was closed.
Why are cars that are sitting on trailers, like at Poly Place allowed? You are or I would be ticketed repeatedly. The NYPD towed a few cars from near the golf course, but now they are expanding to other areas in our neighborhood.
Why isn’t the NYPD ticketing, booting and towing these cars like they ticket the rest of the area?
Captain Tolson was asked at a meeting why these vehicles aren’t booted and he said because they didn’t receive enough tickets for a boot.

Graffiti: What’s the Limit of Madness?
Anne shared this photo of some graffiti inside the gazebo.
It reads: “What’s the limit of madness? I love you New York, but you are my urban prison.”
Hopefully, this person moves out of NYC soon, so their madness doesn’t mean more graffiti in our park.

Dandy Lion’s Outdoor Seating Removed – Quaglione
The Dandy Lion Cafe moved in with Mr. Chips on May 21st and their ourdoor seating remained on 89th Street and 3rd Avenue.
On June 15th, John Quaglione put in a request to have it removed with 311. (See here)
Justin Brannan must be busy with the upcoming election that he didn’t notice Quaglione’s request (if Brannan did, he would have tweeted a response).
Quaglione took the picture of the structure being removed on the 6/24, but didn’t post it until 6/25 with a thank you to the DOT.
Wow times have changed. Quaglione’s account is filled with problems he called in for Bay Ridge. (See here, here and here)

Diti – Multicolored Cat is Missing in Bay Ridge
Diti the cat has been missing since 6/9/22. What a unique looking cat!
She is very friendly to strangers and will approach you. Diti’s family misses her A LOT.
Diti’s owners say that she was last seen PS/IS 30 ANNEX (415 Ovington Avenue). Yet, this week some Ridgites say they saw Diti in the 90’s.

Alpine Theater Lowers Prices For Seniors
While inflation is driving up prices everywhere, Alpine Movie Theater announced that they are rolling back the prices for tickets for seniors. Now seniors will be able to go to any show at the Alpine for $7.00 a ticket. That’s a very nice thing to do!
I went to the Alpine on Tuesday after not being there since the pandemic started. The theater’s makeover is beautiful! Everything was new, fresh and looked fantastic. The ventilation system is working well and they had the air conditioner is very cool (bring a sweater or a hoodie).
The Alpine Movie Theater is at 6817 5th Avenue.

I saw Milano Market on 3rd Avenue and 78th Street was for sale. (See here)
